I am not in favor of this. Why?
Simple reason - here government is businessman - and you cannot expect anything from current government.
If you invest money into this - your money are gone for ever!!

I think this is just a story people have started telling each other.
government contributes 20% and more depending on your income plus interest on the grant + investment compounded. I do not see any investment in canada where you can get 28-30% returns on the money. Also the cost of eduction is increasing every year.

RESP money goes to a trust account. If somehow if RESP company goes bankrupt trustee will take care RESP money. Moreover, it has CDIC insurance.

I AM not sure why you have such Ideas but lets look at it this way the CESG grant is free money ...and invest your money and it will grow whether in resp or outside so why not collect the CESG and let the money grow.
If there is a sound basis for your observations please do share with us all.

but don't TRAP /SCAMMED by any private company because they will rip off you, after 17 years of investment you will get ..
after 17 years Principle + Govt. GRANT + 2% (if you are enough lucky)

Your principle = (your installments - ADMIN charges(this is blend of couple of charges togathe) )
so actually what you get Principle + Govt. Grant ...they just earn from your money ..for them not for you...
*you can see how big SCAM is run by this private company with help of our fellow countryman ..just for commission..trap you for 17 years with your hard earn your money...
