Hi,

Iam planning to move to canada from US in April2008.

I wanted to clarify a few things.

1.Is US credit history valid in canada.

2.Is it advisable to bring the car from US.Any idea of the cost involved in importing the car.Need your inputs.

3.How to transfer money from US to canada.

Can anyone give some suggestions.A little bit of information will also be very helpful.

Thanks

virahehasa

1.Is US credit history valid in canada.

It depends, I got home mortgage on US base credit, But to get a credit card or other loan you have a build credit in Canada.

If you didn't add in goods to follow list, than you have to pay tax, but still you can save some money if you bring form US. If you decide to bring your car send documents at port one week before sometime it take time to enter in there system.

3.How to transfer money from US to canada.

Wachovia used to charge US $, two years before.

To transfer money, use http://www.xe.com." rel="nofollow">LINK

Open an account with them, register your US and Canadian bank accounts and then transfer money from the US account to your Canadian account. They provide you the exact exchange rate for the transfer and their rates are better than the ones provided by any bank.

Partha,

Can you please explain a bit more.

"If you didn't add in goods to follow list, than you have to pay tax, but still you can save some money if you bring form US. If you decide to bring your car send documents at port one week before sometime it take time to enter in there system."

I did not understand this. Your inputs would be very helpful for me.

Thanks,

Virahehasa.

Are you coming to Canada as new Immigrant?

If you are landing first time as Immigrant you can bring car and pay something like less than 200 $ at the port (Check how to import), or you can add as goods to follow list and bring later.

hi Vir..
1) Unlike Parth's experience, I was able to get a CC based on my US credit history (but this was only for one CC company) and then I had to build my credit history for other CC companys to follow suit

Thanks
