On of my friend recently applied for Job
After interviews, company requested him to complete form with all details like SIN#, address, previous companies name, education history etc.
Also new company told him that all criminal history, credit history, educational history as well job history will be checked before offering job
I suppose that is very common in Canada.
After few days, company inform him that records at Credit agency is not matching like date of birth etc.
But my friend submitted driving licence copy, passport as well PR copy & things are okay now.
But my question is how one can get this information corrected at Credit agency?
What are major credit agencies in Canada?
What are different ways of checking credit or confirming your personal information with them?
Does it goes against you if one check CREDIT frequently like say yearly?
Is it possible to check self credit history or information ONLINE like we do Online banking
Can someone write more on this

There are 2 main credit bureaus in Canada. a) Equifax and b) Trans Union. Every body is entitled to receive at least one free credit report (with out score) by mail from these agencies and it does not effect his /her credit.
This type of mistake in credit bureau is quite common and I see it all the times when I pull credit for my clients.
The reason is when the very first time a person applies for the credit, the lender completes the application and if at that time either the date of birth or SIN number or spelling of the name is written incorrectly on the form the same information is recorded by the bureau as the correct one and a file for the borrower is opened. When subsequently the credit is pulled and if all the information does not tally what the bureau already has in its records, the report would show this as an anomaly.
Correction for this is very easy. The person has to contact credit bureau and complete a correction form and provide them with the correct information and the bureau would correct the records and it would not cost any thing. Better still, go the this site http://www.equifax.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK or this site http://www.equifax.com/EFX_Canada/consumer_information_centre/ownreport_e.htmland ask for your free credit report by mail and once you receive the report it will tell you how to correct any incorrect information and you can take it from there. Again it would not cost you a dime and you do not need any help from any one and get this or any other mistake corrected by dealing directly with the credit bureau yourselves.

HI Freddie,
The link you provided seems for US Credit Bureaues.
In Canada, we generally follow these two. a) Equifax and b) Trans Union. However, the equifax is the most commonly used. Any body can get his/her
free credit report by mail from both the bureaus and get the corrections done him/her self.
