Today, I am going to harp upon a subject that's been there, noticed by everyone, may be thought about by people, but never been asked in any open forum or media. Why do people love Dogs, cats, or any other animal more than their fellow human beings? Why do people have hatred towards their fellow human being - their own race and love animals?
First of all, I should let everyone know about the background of my story. Its origination and birth. I was reading a news report on 'www.yahoo.ca' about a Hollywood couple who treated their house-maid worst and like a slave. The couple were given a harsh punishment by judge (For a complete story, please follow this link: http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/080129/world/forced_labour_3).
However, discussing this news story is not the purpose of my article. I have seen people cuddling and making love to their puppies, cats, dogs, or the animals under the sun. But, when it comes to their own race, the selfishness, hatred, racism, brutalities, violence take a precedence. I am not saying that everyone falls into this category. Making generalizations is not my forte at all. I am merely making a point for those animal loving people. While there are endless pet stores and pet lovers/owners, who enjoy their shopping spree for their pets, there are equally (or more) number of homeless people out on the street. How much do we care about them? Now, when I say homeless, it
doesn't mean I am supporting those who are in a good shape and can work. I am simply emphasizing upon those who need assistance and shelter.
We often categorize people in different brackets. They are black, white, Chinese, Indo-Canadians, and so on. Our prejudice is also based upon these categories. Our selfishness, perceptions, and various generalisations stem from this fact. How often do we say to ourselves - It's just another human being having the same flesh and bones, and they need love, attention, and respect as well. I believe just like pets get all the attention from people. Have we ever heard someone criticizing someone's pet? No. But all the time our remarks are about the people - good or bad.
Before I conclude, I should let everyone know about where my biases lie. I have never liked pets and have always believed in following. Just like a bird can't breathe a fresh air in a cage and needs an open sky to fly, an animal's true home is in the jungle. Where they can roam free, and not walk in chains. Yes, they need love as well, but freedom is their best relief. Don't you think so? Well, I can't expect everyone to agree with me. Nevertheless, in life, loving fellow human beings should take precedence among anything else. We can't treat animals like our kids, and thrashing a creature with the same flesh and bones like us. It's known as humanity towards human being.
I have touched upon this subject before. Please use "Search Charcha" to find it.
My stand is that use the money that you use on pets to feed someone in Africa or even in your own motherland ( India).
To answer your query, I belive that Jealosuy, greed, Racisim desire for cleanliness (you hate someone b'cos he is dirty on the outside) etc.. , etc.. is the reason why people hate each other.
I belive other CD can add to this.
ALl the best in your search for an answer.

Asking why people love pets is like asking why the sky is blue. A person could write a PhD thesis on it.
First of all..animals were domesticated centuries ago. start from there - what was the purpose of farming animals?
Studies show that petting an animal has shown to reduce blood pressure and slow down a racing heart beat. Humans depend on animals in many different ways.
yes I am biased because I am an animal lover. However I am also someone who cares about the world..society..community and human beings. Homelessness affects me as much as seeing an animal being abused.
If you are going to do an analysis of this subject please find arguement on both sides. Loving an animal is subjective..but finding links to prove how gross people can be for their pets isnt the answer.
My animals dont cause me grief. Animals only do what is in their nature. they dont cause wars ..famine..strife..hatred..jealousy greed..
Btw... have you seen people "making love" to their animals? thats an entirely different matter ..
As society's become more independant and people become isolated..pets are very important to people's mental health. Please read studies on this. Seniors without partners or children or family around..survive for their pets.
edited to add:
mass deforestation and urban development is forcing many animals from their natural habitats and leaving them homeless. Of course we are not going to domesticate foxes and bears and such, but there are some animal species that are surviving due to human efforts to preserve them.
Humans have also poached and destroyed species as well.
I agree about keeping caged birds. I wouldnt.
