I'm a chartered accountant residing in India, immigrating to Canada.

Let me tell you that despite being professionally qualified and having 12 yrs of experience, I 'm finding it extremely difficult to even land an interview(I just quit my last job with a British company as I had sustained a spinal injury and was unable to continue for a month and the co. sent me termination notice).This is a very frustrating phase of my life.Imagine being without a job for the first time in 12 yrs with a family to support.

I am frustrated , angry with the situation here in my own country.Only nepotism seems to work.

This had led me to look elsewhere-Canada

However, I read on various forums on the net that moving to Canada would be a big mistake, people are cold, unemployment , poor health services etc.I was really taken aback at the overwhelmingly depressing comments.

This has started to give me sleepless nights.However, let me tell u that I am not coming with great hopes or ambitions.I only want a less populated, clean and safe place for me and my family.I'm willing to take up any accounting or any other job .I 'm not having any overly high expectations.

But on this site I have read some very good experiences specially of someone named Alok.

Can anyone pls share their true experiences of living in Canada after immigrating?

Of Course I would suggest you to come to canada, because i Can see contentment in your mail. This is the big thing if you are new to this contry. Don't think you are highly qualified and canadian employers are standing in a queue for hiring you.


Any job satisfaction (of course temporarily) is very important. After 3-5 years of hard work, you will definately find peaceful and comfortable life here.

The only problem in your case is the spinal injury. If you think you are medically fit then only you come because medical examination in is free (that's why it is worst) but medicines are high high highly expensive.

Think and take a smart decision.

Finance and Accounting profession is highly respected and well paying in Canada. And a demand for Good and highly skilled Finance and Accounting professional always exist in Canada. Rest all depend on individual way of presenting and selling oneself.

Sometime it is difficult to get a perm job directly with overseas experiance here in Canada. No problem one can always get and start working on contract thru companies like Accountemps, a leading finance and accounting agency.

One need to come with strong will and determination that he/she will not look for odd jobs and will work in his/her own field and one will surely succeed.

In Canada, the Finance and Accounting professionals along with Computer Science graduates have far better success rate than other professions.
