It will be nice if you can tell us a little bit more and clear about it.

First for starters, what kind of vehicle you were driving. Was it a Hummer?
Where did it happen? Is it Hwy 401 East Bound?
At what time did it happen? Was it at midnight?
How Fast were you driving? 115km/hr?
What were the road conditions? Snowy? Slippery?
What conditions were you in? Sleepy? Sober?

Any car that takes a hit at 100km/hr will have bad damages.
Any car that was five years old get "T" boned, with a damage to the chassis will have severe damages, and when it needs to be fixed will come up with more than the cost of the vehicle's Book value. Check a few of the items that I have provided you here with and see if what the mechanic is saying is correct? If so, then take the money that they are giving you and look for a better vehicle. Because if you add three weeks rental to it, if you are entitled to it, then will push the costs above the book value. They depreciate even the Radio in it when they evaluate and they normally use the odometer to base their assessments.

By now if you know all of the above, then please tell us all of what you currently know and give us a run down about it so that people on this board will also know the details as you have it currently on you.
