Hello All,
This morning, a guy hit my car. There was some road blocking and many cars were in the line were waiting. All of sudden this guy came from back and try to cross all the cars in the line and in this struggle he hit my car on the left front.
We stop and exchange our insurance details.
This is my first accident and never had this situation before. My questions are;-
- Is my deductable will apply when I inform insurance?
- My car has very small scratch but he got big scratches. We ddin't call police because the demage was not big.
- This guy looks over smart, how insurance company will verify that he hit my car not me. If he gives the reverse story to insurance company. Is it possible?
- If insurance company will apply the deductable, I am not interested to inform insurance company about this incedent because scratch is very small and I can live with it. But what happen if other company call his insurance company?
Should I inform my insurance company or not? any advantage/disadvantage
Thanks

The first thing to do is to take pics if possible ... He hit at the front left not rear ... report to the nearest collision center asap as well as your Insurance company ... Ask him if he wishes to settle it personally for a 1000 bucks as his insurance premium would go up by much more than that .
You would not be charged any deductible - nor would you have any penalty on future premiums since you are not at fault ....
Generally its wiser to note a witness s number if possible.

Make sure with insurance company that they are not consider your fault, if you go through insurance process, otherwise Insurance company definately will increased your premium on renewal. same thing happened with me on last year due to weather i got an accident and that time insurance agent told me verbally over the phone "ohh it is not your fault. "but after 8 months on renewal they increased my insurance almost $150/month. Now i stucked with this fault for at least 7 years in my driving record.
RBO - was this when you were entering a main rot and and could not see the oncoming car because of a snow bank in the middle ?
Yes I agree - one shd clarify first as to who is considered @ fault ..

Please note that if there is no witness and opposite party will change the story, you both will be considered at 50% fault and insruance will be increased at the time of renewal. (This could happen if you will ask him for $1000)
So, I'll suggest to notify and prove that you are not at fault to your insurance company asap.
Thanks
