Dear CD friends,
I was searching through this site but couldn't find much info about job prospects in telecom field, although found a lot of posts regarding IT jobs. I have 4 years of experience as a Mobile Core Network Planning Engineer in Siemens(currently Nokia Siemens Networks after merging with Nokia Networks) and worked in many big operator's projects like Vodafone, T-Mobile, Hutchison, VSNL etc.
Now I am planning to move to Toronto, and thinking to start with a Masters study first to allow me some time to integrate there step by step. Is that a good idea?
How is the job situation in telecom field in Canada? Like in Mobile phone companies, Vendors, Telecom service providers etc? (to name a few Cisco, Bell, Nortel and Rogers Canada?) I will highly appreciate if someone puts some spot light in this prospect.
Also if anyone from Telecom field could kindly guide me with suggestions and advices to build up a telecom career in canada...
Thanks a lot for your time and kind help.
Best wishes,
Oron
Go to the NSN Canada website and search for jobs there. They are hiring experienced people now as the many new projects with Telus, Videotron and Globalive.
Telecom is good in Canada if you are experienced in the right profile. Core and RF are very good.
The future is very bright for ppl with Telecom exp.. the reason is Canada has reserved spectrum for new entrants to increase competition..
What this means is in the next 2-3 years a lot of new carriers will be launched.
This means lot of opportunities.
All Telecos have hiring freeze but i can still see new people being hired.. So if are good and have companies on ur resume u should not have problems.
U should try to switch to IT with ur domain knowledge u can be in demand..
I would suggest mediation layer as a good entry point for a person with strong engineering background.. IUM or Amdocs mediation layer.
Workopolis is ur best bet...
Post ur resume there and i am sure recruiters will contact u,..
