This is what happened:

I went to the library and was going through some books, while my 3 yr old went to the kids corner and started playing with a chinese kid. As normal in this age-group, they started pulling & pushing about something, and then suddenly the other kid started bawling like mad. Before I could reach there and intervene, the chinese kid's mom came and picked up my daughter and threw her on the floor. She also demanded that my daughter apologize to her son.
I readily apologized on my daughter's behalf and walked out of there, although I really dont know whose fault it was to start with, and besides they are kids, and this type of behaviour is totally normal!!
Now, I feel that I just ran away from the situation, and whatever it was, no stranger has the right to touch my kid in such a way.
I was just wondering, is there something that I can do, can I charge the other lady, is there any law to prevent these kind of things? :(

Although it was nothing very serious, my daughter could have got hurt because of the way she was banged down on the floor. I dont have any witness, and the librarian was busy at the other end.

I wish I had reported this incident to the police!! :cuss:

That is our mentality. We always try to find a way to make money easily. If this incident happened in you home country u wouldn't care.

We shout about our rights but never care about our duties.

People in this country live in fear for their whole life.

Talk for yourself now...will ya. Where does money come into the picture? And I don't know about you, but most of people on this forum WOULD care about the well being of their child, be it anywhere on the planet.

Would you let someone go without reacting if you were in a similar situation in your home country?

I don't think it was any kind of fear. OP reacted the way she did out of shock. Anyone could have done that.

It is just a money making technique. You slip down in someone's apartment, u get the right to make money. You people always try to find weakness in the law and try to use it for your own well beings.

If someone touches your kid, u get the law to SUE him even if it is just normal. You have been given so much freedom in this country that you forgot the concept of forgiveness.

I wish if Gandhigiri be taught here also.

This happened on Sunday (21st June 2009) at around 3.00PM at Walmart, Square One, Mississauga.

A few bicycles were put on limited sale for $75. There was this Gujarati lady with a two kids and her mother - in- law.

Her small son was riding a 3 wheeler bicycle around while she and her family were checking out the outdoor furniture in the back of the first floor level.

Suddenly an Assistant Manager (whose name I learnt later called John, and none of the employees of Walmart wanted to give me his last name) walked in and said to this lady Miss this tricycle is for sale, if you would like to buy it I can put it into your cart and rudely pulled out the tricycle and carried it and threw it into the section were they were stored. This lady was bewildered and was caught in a bad situation in front of her MIL. She said something like if the kid should not ride the bike, how he would know how good it is and also if the people cannot use it then whether this store was intended for aliens.

She was very upset/shaken up and moved away towards McDonalds. By the time I could approach both this guy called John or this lady both walked away.

I walked upto the Customer Service and asked them about this guy who confirmed his name as John. I explained to them the situation of how this lady has been treated and NO WHERE it has been displayed that the bikes should not be test drived.

I later identified the lady and explained to her that walking away from the situation does not change the situation and also what sort of role model she would be for her children when they walk away from an abusive situation. I told her that I'm going to complain to the big boss for this Walmart on Monday and she must also do so. She said that her son was emotionally affected and did not want to shop and wanted to go home.I also told her that I'll be writing about this in Canadian Desi.

Dear Madam: IF YOU ARE READING THIS PLEASE ACT ON THIS AND DO NOT STOP UNTIL YOU ARE GIVEN AN APOLOGY.

Incidentally this Walmart is frequented by Desis and most of the employees are Desis. This guy later I learnt behaves the same way with his subordinates.

If there are any employees or relatives of this Walmart and if you had any bad experience with this guy John, please vent your feelings/experiences in this thread so that I can follow it up together without divulging any personal details.

I tried to reach the Manager today but I could not do so as he was busy. I'll try tomorrow if he does not come on line, I'll personally visit him and explain the situation and I want an apology or even a committment that this will not happen again.

If the situation doesnot change please watch out for me with a placard outside this Walmart asking for Desi's to boycott this Walmart.

Oh man you are such a role model for all of us. I will *definitely* be looking out for you. Desis need more people like you. March on soldier!!

I completely support standing up and speaking out against poor customer service. However I dont understand
a) what does a bad situation in front of MIL mean? can you please explain? what does it matter that it happened in front of her MIL?

b) the alien remark?

Secondly - was this mother watching the child? was the child disturbing other customers?
