What is the normal age for kids to start speaking? My daughter is 22 months old, but she only says few words here and there. We, speak English at home but at her babysitter she speaks in Hindi and I sometimes speak to her in Hindi. Would this confuse her to the extend to not speakign yet?
In addition to that, some people have told me that teletubbies are not that nice for kids, as they don't talk, they just giggle, jump etc. I am very concerned, any ideas would be appreciated?

PS: I have already spoken to the doctor at 18 months, he said no need to worry!!
When doctor says NOT TO WORRY then why worry???
Its right that some kids would start speaking a little later than other kids, but boy when they start speaking they would not shut up.(just kidding).
As you mentioned that she does say some words, then you should not worry at all and she would soon be adding words to her vocabulary. It is good that the baby sitter and sometimes you speak her in Hindi so atleast she would pickup Hindi words also because she would have no problem in picking english as most of the times she would be in english speaking atmosphere. No, it would not confuse her to the extent of not speaking. As far as Teletubbies are concerned, we have not heard this but why not consult the doctor on that too after waiting for a couple of more months.

I agree with Promod. I dont think theres any need for you to worry. However, you can consult another doc if you want a second opinion.
Also even in the same family and same environment each kid learns at their own pace. e.g: my daughter started her first words at about 8-12 mths. However my son who is 22 months started saying a few words only a cpl of months ago. We were initially worried about our son due to the experience with our daughter. However the doc mentioned that as long as the kid can understand what you are trying to say say to him/her...it is OK. My son's vocabulary is improving each day but he is still at/maybe less, the level my daughter was at 15 months. However, physically he is much more agile/active than my daughter is now at 6 years. He also shows the same, if not more mental prowess even though he cannot vocally articulate his thoughts as well as his sister did.
Also 2 languages IS good. They will not get confused. I think that the talk about 'teletubbies' being bad is rubbish! At the same time, watching TV for more than a cpl of hrs(max) will not do a 2 yr old much good...even if the kid is watching CNN
