Hi CD friends,
As stated I had been to Tobermory on Saturday.
I stay at Richmond Hill, and I drove up north on 404, and ,Hwy 26 west route,
It did take approx 3.5 hrs to reach (320 kms) one way.
Got all the Info from the Tourist info centre ( Centre located as you approach Tobermory ) Narrowed down on items of interest .
Soon on reaching we booked for a cruise ride with " Blue Heron " cruises they have a couple of boat cruises , you select one based on your choice and time you intend to spend on other activities after the cruise.
{As we are not too adventorous I took a 2hrs tour costing 37 cads ppl. }
I took 3.30pm -5.30 one to avoid the peak sun . You may need a spring jaCKET ON YOUR RETURN TO PUT ON IF YOU ARE RIDING THE CRUISE ON UPPER OPEN DECK
In the time till 3.30 I visited couple of touring points .
1) Light House : Good open view of the vast lake, clean and rocky land but the shore is good to take dip in water , if prepared, Sitting benches there for elders to sit
2)There is one point which has a big tower built to have arial view of Tobermory, not worth climbing but I did it , (It takes approx 10 min) climbing.
3)National park , I did not visit it.
After the boat cruise , we moved to Owen Sound 101 kms towards Toronto.
Had booked with Comfort Inn 120 for 1 room with 2 double beds (with CAA discount + taxes), can accomodate upto max 5 persons with 1 extra bed. You pay $ 10 per extra person above 2 adults, children under 18 are free, with free continental breakfast next day

Next day visited Sauble Beach ( Excellent beach) I did not take full advantage of the beauty the beach has to offer as we are not typical beach persons but excellent place to spend the whole day, you only have to be fully equipped with your beach stuff in your car to take the max advantage , even elders shall enjoy .

You drive your car to the beach I was not aware of this before I left and hence was also not fully equipped.

I hope this helps , you can pm me if you need any more info

And yes you can include Loin's Head too in your trip, it is a wonderful place around 30 min. before Tobermory.

What to see @ Loin's Head ?

We are planning to go Tobermory tomorrow. Just for a day trip.Planning to start from Mississauga at 5.30 am and return by 11pm.I know the time is short but hope to utilize it well. Thanks to Peacock and other CDs for the useful information. So Peacock, you did not get down at Flowerpot island.Do you think it is worth getting down or better to go for the 2Hr cruise.
There is one more option for people who can spare 3 -4 days. They can use the ferry service( charges around$35/Car) from Tobermory and land at Southbaymouth and drive through the Manitoulin Island( The largest fresh water island in the world)via Espanola /Sudbury/ Parrysound and then back to Toronto. You can do sight seeing in around Espanola ans see French River while driving back.
Southbaymouth to Toronto is around 550 KM.

It takes 2 hrs by ferry from Tobermory to Southbaymouth. Ferry leaves If am right 3 times in a day- Morning afternoon and evening.
I was planning to do this trip but could not do it till now.

Started at 6 am- HWY 10 & HWY 6 & reached Tobermory around 10 am with a break at Timmies & at the windmills site for a pic. Took the 2 hr cruise at 11 am, took us to all the nearby islands(5) with a ship wreck site and a look at the flower pot island without getting down. Could move around the boat (be ready with a light jacket), did not feel very sunny as we were moving around the glass bottomed boat. Breathtaking views, still would prefer to go during fall.

Started from Tobermory around 2 pm, hit HWY 6, visited "Singing Sands" beach - a waste, moved towards Cyprus Lake. By 2.30 we were in the Georgian Bay Trail to see " The Grotto". Medium difficulty trail- dont walk too fast - reaches Bruce Trail & Wow! (I might not recommend from this part for kids but we did see them). The views were too good- picture perfect scenaries & nature's marvels. A must see area - no complaints from our teen kids, just wows. need water bottles, a snack, camera & video camera.

Onto HWY 6 again by 5 pm & got deviated to the left side shoreline before Ferndale & that was White Bluffs- another pic perfect scenic drive. At Wiarton, couldnt locate the Willy, so took RD 8 towards Sauble Beach. Finally we found a place we could call a beach ,these beaches hardly please us (from the land of Marina Beach), got some waves & was clean.

Missed: Night Sky at Tobermory; Sunset at Sauble, Potholes at Lion's Head- on a trail but may not be suitable for beginners. Reached home exactly at 10:10 pm.

P.S. Two drivers a must - 600 kms to be covered with all that walking...

Reviving this thread for the forthcoming 2nd of Jul weekend ..... Is Tobemory a good place to visit with a 9 month old ??

What are the good places around ( 3-4 hrs) btw ? I am reserving Algonquin Park for the Fall ..... Have heard about Cranbery Resorts ( near Collingwood ) and a 1000 islands ..... which would be best getaway for a couple and a 9 month old ???

Please advise . Summer does not last the year around !!!
