Go on workopolis or monster. I am getting lots of response from these two sites. I quit my old job due to commute. Our fields are different but i feel it is easy to find a job nowadays.

hmmm...Interesting to hear that "easy to find a job nowadays"..
anyways..never know as long as u have the required skills and there is a demand..no matter what u do..u get the calls.

where as if the supply is more and the demand is less(due to artificial recession), then its tough even though u get calls by the recruiters.

Anyways...my suggestion is along with monester, workpolis and try Linkden as well...
Good luck and i will keep an eye as well and let u know if i come across anything.

PS:Meanwhile if u r on fulltime, try to get the second carreer funds to upgrade the skills or use the money for something else.

No brainer - review and update your resume .... take at least 3-4 days to do so before you upload it on monster and workopolis . Your resume spells 50% of your success ...

Once you ve uploaded , query and apply for jobs in your expertise over the past 3 weeks ... then move on to current jobs .... After some days you should be able to do so only for latest jobs on a daily basis ...

I like your attitude. Rather than saying "I am laid off today - how do I apply for EI n other benefits" .... your query is more on the positive side. Way to go ...

I dont get queries for your skill set - but if i do, I'll pass on.

First, before jumping right back into job search, you may want to consider assessing your financial situation and prepare and put necessary steps in place in the event finding the next opportunity takes some time.

For example, things to consider for short term financial planning are, how and how much of severance (if offered) would you need and use (depending on whether you were a single earner or not) and what expenses can be eliminated/reduced (magazine subscriptions, cell phone plans, charities, etc). Also, determine exactly how much you need every month. If you can spend a day or two settling these, you can sort of put away the financial stress for the most part. There will always be emergency spending (murphy's law) that you can't help.

Second, spend another day or two updating your resume. There are many, many formats available and accepted. However, an accomplishment based resume works better than simply stating what you did in your job. Functional resumes are generally discouraged as they are considered to be confusing and hard to pinpoint when what was done. So, go with the usual reverse chronological resume. http://www.ladders.com" rel="nofollow">LINK has some samples I have found useful.

Third, if you are provided with outplacement service as part of your severance, make the most of it. They won't find you a job, but they do have some good tips, maybe some free goodies as well including job sites you could try.

Fourth, don't forget to apply and process your unemployment. You need to make sure you get the money due to you without any gaps or lapse.

Jobsites such as http://www.indeed.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK and http://www.simplyhired.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK offer more access to jobs than monster or workopolis. Identify titles that you see yourself as most fit and the ones you think you want to go into and setup daily email alerts on Indeed and Simplyhired. You'll get emails everyday on jobs under each of these titles.

While you may have worked under certain specialization, don't forget your passion, interests and the "want to do in your life" list. Apply for jobs in those areas as well. You'll find that a new industry may offer a fresh dynamic to your life.

If you are open to relocation, never hesitate to go gung-ho and apply nationwide, maybe in US as well.

Your field may be hot that you may find a job in few days. But the more prepared you are for the long haul, the less you are discouraged.

Finally, do things that you may have not found time to do (without going bankrupt, that is)....such as...home projects, seeing places, etc, etc.

Best wishes and good luck.

Apply for your EI after a week anyway ... you can use it till you get your next job ... any delay in this would only delay your EI income .
