Who is giving credit to the North Americans? You just want to score a point, right?
I just chronologically mentioned when the manufacturing base moved to China and Mexico, and the service sector to India. I DID NOT give any credit to North America.

How did the ASEAN countries come into the picture? I did not even mention them.

As for the 10 appreciation of real estate value, my cousin himself made a whopping 100 % profit, selling his apartment in a prime neighborhood of Bangalore. You can also look up archives of India Today 2003-'04 for information about real estate values in Bangalore & Chennai. I have read it one of the issues during that year - unfortunately I can not recall the exact issue.

To quote one blog: ..........\"iv) and Top of all these the so Called \"IT people\" who everybody believes buys these apartments. Still Cannot afford as Real Estate Prices have almost doubled in last 18 month where as salary increase has been just 15-20% max.

Why I need to score a point? I am not playing hockey here? I never said that you mentioned about ASEAN?

Come on, now just don't say that your cousin made 100% profit that means price increased by 100%. The best you come up with some blog which also says (as you quoted) doubled in 18 months. I don't have any doubt that price increased significantly but 10% per month that's too much. Food price 20% per year?

Hey Ash, what's wrong with you? In a 1000 word post, you find two small holes........ are you giving yourself an ego trip? Or feeling great that you became Sherlock Holmes's alter ego?

Leave ilovena alone - he won't respond to your post or taunts either. Read his parting post, if you have the time.

What is your problem? I am not tauting anybody? It's ILOVENA's choice to respond or not? I don't find anything interesting is his "this" post.

canada's birthrate is declining and immigration helps in keeping the population level constant. It is predicted that by 2030 almost all population increase will occur through immigration alone.

I think it is 1% of the total population that they aim to replace each year.

Yup and it's a classic example of good intentions going south due to bad planning. The idea was to increase the population all over Canada, however most of the new immigrants land up in the GTA thereby driving up prices for housing and commodities, increasing competition for already scarce jobs, increasing traffic and population pressure everywhere and otherwise lowering the overall "quality of life". Misery-Ssauga, the prime destination these days for "newcomers" is fast becoming a ghetto.

I am not dogging the new immigrants. I blame our ineffectual, lazy and stupid government. They (on a good day) can't find their butt with two hands and a GPS, let alone manage a country and it's immigration policies.

Now I know that many will say that in a country as big as Canada and in a place where deep recession is going on , 180 applications is nothing. But you have to understand that this position was for a professional job (not labour job) and also that the profession advertised for is a very skilled and where the profession is supposed to have a very limited pool of skilled candidates. Imagine, then as to how many people would be applying for postion relating to trades, Engineering etc...
The interviewer told me that he had called for 9 people to be interviewed and that I was one among them.
I guess that Canadian govt. really needs to either start limiting immigration or else do the following :
1. Lower wages (Bust all unions), lower the standard of living so that more jobs can be created by being competitive
2. Launch massive infrastructure programs (by borrowing money) like creating new towns, developing up north etc..

My personal 2 cents

Peace by a PD

Why Canadian $ is equal to Rs.40. Does it mean that a Canadian teller at bank counter stamping the cheque deposit has productivity 40 times better than an Indian teller doing the same job?

However, such high exchange rate is like double edge sword. Canada can import goods and products manufactured in third world countries very cheap which keeps inflation low but keeps many jobs beyond Canada as we can not produce at competitive rate.

USA is a different case. Due to their superpower status, USD is a world currency and hence theoretically they can pay off their debts by printing USD. Further, USA has edge in innovation (majority of all new products are invented in USA). They can export new medicines, high technology and arms. Canada, being subsidiary of USA might get a small pie out of their manufacturing and keep exporting natural resources. I do not see any political party having firm agenda to create jobs or keep jobs in Canada. We are at unfortunate juncture. I guess some bureaucrat in Canada made projection for next 20 years regarding jobs creation and economy expanding and accordingly but never factored contingency like present financial crisis.

If immigrants want a better job, the best immigrants can do is what Islamist have done in India. Create a vote bank and vote strategically so that their votes decide who comes to power. Then and only then, their prospects for better job will improve. However, immigrant unity is a pipe dream and will never happen. The next best solution is to set up a small business, work hard and try to improve standard of living. If it does not work, go bust (Bankruptcy) and go back to India. With CPP, one can still live happily in India provide one has house/flat ownership free of mortgage there.

Thank God, you're not in Vancouver or you would've seen the house prices going North for no reason (population growth or not). Believe me, it doesn't even attract a fraction of immigrants that Toronto does. Daily commute is still a mess and even though you're living far from downtown, you would still end up spending at LEAST $600,000 for a detached house (3000 sq. ft).

Count your blessings each day that you're living in Toronto and not Calgary/Vancouver - for you're saving a hell lot of money. Heck with Misery-ssauga / Bramp'garh as I still find it enticing to live there than ever expansive Vancouver.

I agree though, that more and more immigration is not resulting into more developed land, decentralization of office-buildings away from downtown, and more than anything else a quality employment for skilled immigrants. GOC is only increasing highly educated labours. But, hey! Who's listening?

To some extent I completely agree with TK here.
