Unsecured credit card

Hi,

We moved from US a couple of weeks back and we have good credit history in US.

When we approached TD bank for unsecured credit card, they say that I have to get secured credit card only as they can't access US credit history.

Any advice/suggestions to get unsecured credit card? (I don't have AMEX card).

As we are planning to buy a house at the earliest, if I get secured credit card now, will I have problem in getting mortgage?

Hi,

Try applying for credit card with "Annual fees" keep it for a year by the time you will get another card with no annual fees and then you can cancel the one with the fees.
Most Banks do care for that fees. so chances of getting a card are more.

I would say go for the secured credit card. Find out if they are reporting the balance or monthly transactions to the credit agency. If they are, then you are building credit history.

There are some companies (giving secured credit cards) who do not report the balance to the credit agencies.

Do not apply for too many unsecured credit cards at once.

Hello!
Try applying for PC mastercard at any loblaws store. It is an unsecured no fee master card and is one of the easiest to get. I know examples of people with no jobs getting that. Their usual credit limit is $5,000
A secured credit card will have no negetive impact on your mortgage.

MBNA is spread in US/Canada/UK and they may be able to check your US history.

Hi tamilkuravan,

On what basis, does PC mastercard is issued? I have a permanent job in Canada.

If I get a AMEX card through my company, will it help me to build credit history?
