Let me rephrase. "Love Aaj Kal" was a dumb movie, and IMO, they made Deepika's character the way it was, just to make her cool and hep.

Looking at her popularity, I think she will be forced to play dumb characters just for sake of popularity. It will be a major move for her, should she choose to to be selective in her roles.

You are making an absolute statement without knowing them personally. What makes you think someone is intelligent or otherwise?

As meghal said, 95%, including this, falls in retard category. But its a business, box office verdict is that the movie is Super Hit.

Deepika n Lara both r sort of new comers ... every new girl or boy needs to go through this phase to rise above n be selective. Select few are exception to this. But then you wont associate glamour with those select few.

Admittedly my impression of Deepika and Lara is based on their awards/accomplishments/activities to date. Lara has been crowned Miss Universe and it takes a little bit of intelligence to get there....Deepika did not come up that route but she seems to be articulate in the few talk shows I have seen her in.....

Granted that Bollywood churns out the nonsensical comedies routinely but there are a lot of good entertainment films also which are being made....for example Om Shanti Om was also a masala movie but it did not assume that its viewers had the intelligence of a five year old who would find scenes like being repeatedly slapped by a monkey funny.....on some levels it was a brilliant spoof on the ways and workings of Bollywood....I have no issues with a movie like Om Shanti Om. It is an out and out entertainer which does not rely on gags and skin show to bring in the audience.

I do have a problem when the director assumes that his audience has the intelligence of a retard and relies on gags and one of the selling points of the movie is three heroines in bikinis......not that I have a problem with that, if it makes sense to the story fine....but nowadays Bollywood directors work backwards from the situation to the story rather than the other way around resulting in a disjointed, illogical story...but in the final analysis...it was my choice to watch half the movie..and for that I have only myself to blame not the director.

I take that to mean that you think that acting is a profession where intelligent women do not take up meaning that all actresses are dumb broads. Maybe you will laugh from the other side of your face when you realize that

1) Preity Zinta was offered admission to UCLA (Management) one of the top management colleges in the USA but declined the offer to go into acting
2) Soha Ali Khan is a graduate of the LSE...London School of Economics
3) Aishwarya Rai excelled academically before switching to modelling and acting
4) Madhuri was very academically inclined and has a degree in microbiology
5) Amisha Patel had a gold medal in economics from Tufts UNiversity

By your comment I doubt whether you have been within 10 miles of any of the institutions mentioned above....
