Hello,

My name is Yogesh and I wanted a clarification on the federal skilled immigration rules. After getting a PR under this category, is it mandatory to find a job under the same category in which one applied to keep your PR visa valid? Otherwise, does your PR visa expire if one is not able to find a job.

For example, if I am an IT professional in India and got my PR under the IT professinal category, is it mandatory to get job in IT in Canada within some specified time to keep my PR valid?

If I am unable to get a job in the same profession during which I applied while filing for PR, then what happens?

Thank you very much if you can clarify this point.

-Yogesh

No it is not mandatory. In fact in many cases it does not happen, at least initially. Once you have received your PR card, for 5 years you can live, travel in/out, work in Canada anywhere and do anything (or nothing) without any restrictions. Happy !! :D

Thanks Mr. RP Singh. Just an extended question, if after 5 years I want to do something else, or maybe a business and discontinue from IT, will the govt. allow me to stay as a citizen (considering that I have stayed constantly for five years) and not left Canada. As I understand, one gets citizenship after staying for 3 years without any break.

From your guidance, I understand that I can do anything in Canada once I am a PR and need not worry to be in the same profession.

Thanks,
Yogesh

Welcome to Canada.
Getting a job in your profession is a dream come true. You might be forced to take up a job in a field you have never worked in. All the best and stay positive.
