Are there any nice hotels in Ottawa which aren't expensive and have a 24 hour checkout policy? Desi managed or owned?
We were in Ottawa last year and stayed at "LES SUITES" right in the middle of that city's (so-called) downtown. It's next to the mall, and another hotel (forgot the name - maybe Radisson), and a very convenient location if you want to go see the Parliament buildings and other tourist attractions.. they're all about 20 mins away. Stay away from the rest of the downtown area, it's like.. full of junkies. . The countryscape is okay tho.
do a google for the hotel to see what it looks like. les-suites.com. It's really nice, and a lot of families stay there in the tourism season. They have one, two, three and four bedroom suites, just like apartments, with full kitchens and baths and living rooms and dining areas etc. We stayed there about ten days in a two bedroom and it averaged about $100 per night, which is cheap considering it was fully-booked and it's typically about $200-300 a night. They had a package deal going at time - you might call to inquire what they are offering currently. They usually have packages available which can save you good money. You also save on eating out costs coz the kitchen is fully furnished with pots and pans etc. The hotel was the only highlight of the trip, otherwise Ottawa is a bit creepy.

Tulip Festival is a festival organised in Ottawa every year for about two weeks when hundreds or thousands of tulips planted are in full bloom all over the city. Besides tulips, they offer various parades, and other shows.
It is a really good festival and worth visiting - but don't be too early nor too late - or you wont see it in full bloom!

i dont know if it will be below your standards but once i went to ottawa on a shoestring budget ...stayed at YMCA downtown ...asked for single rooms ..and i managed a nice clean room , basic amenities for 50 bucks a night...it had a good reasonable restaurant and central location.
what a sleepy town ottawa is !!! but thats another topic
Good luck ...if you find something better there ...please do share
