Some of his statements
"Singh speaks softly and succinctly. Unlike most politicians who yap and yearn for attention, he’s economical with his words and focused in his replies. Modest, he dislikes the limelight."
"He is a Gandhian figure, who, like the great Mahatma, is very much of this world but seemingly unsullied by it."
"In a land rife with corruption, Singh’s honesty is legendary. For decades, he drove himself to work in his beat-up car from his modest house."
IMO, being a leader and turning blind eye to party members corrupt activities is akin to being corrupt yourself.

read this and not the old junk. a very skeptical look at the pm to be.
Today Congress stands ready to do the family’s bidding, like a well-upholstered Ambassador car always at the front door. A second, even more impressive vehicle, known simply as India, boasts wheels of state, and its chauffeur is respectfully called “prime minister”. It offers an exhilarating if often erratic ride (it belches smoke and lurches in unexpected directions, when it is not stuck in traffic). It is currently on loan to a loyal and honest retainer, Manmohan Singh, no mean driver for a man of his years. But this car is Rahul’s heirloom. It is just a question of time before he asks for the keys back.

I think Rahul Gandhi has a long way to go as yet to succeed as a politician. But before that he has to prove that he can lead the Congress.Rahul’s projection by the Congress Party as its 2009 Prime Ministerial candidate is somewhat far fetched as he, in relation to Indian politics is still a toddler. He has to learn a lot about the complexities of the Indian political system and this can come only through some hard-earned grass root level experience and by playing a long innings in Indian politics. However it is a welcome sign that Rahul has finally taken the hard plunge.
So will he become prime minister one day? Not now, he answered recently, as if he knew that destiny was on his side. Congress leaders admit that if the party gets to rule for five more years, the young Rahul Gandhi will surely replace Manmohan Singh.
