Am 30 years old and working as an Oracle Developer in India. I earn around INR 11 lakhs pa, but with no further growth opportunity here. Am interested in moving to Canada and work there in IT field.
I have no knowledge that will i get visa/pr or even a job there. Am married and plan to come there by the end of next year. If you can help me understand how to work this out, then I would be very thankful to you.
Regards,
Sumit
To make things quick, you could get in touch with companies such as TCS, Wipro, Satyam etc.., who send their folks to Canada on work permit, once you manage a year or two, you could fast track your PR application and settle.
Its kind of tough believe you don't have growth opportunities in India where I see attrition rate is high means more opportunities.

I think he means opportunities money wise...
For most IT folks 11 to 14 lakhs is the ceiling in india.. maybe he should check with the guy called Siliconvalley for how to break the ceiling..
Cooldelhiite
what JRF suggested is the best option all other options are bound with frustration. Canada is a very closed job market and they dont know whom to trust and whom not so they try to keep people out of the market.. Get metally prepared for frustration in the short term if u plan to migrate here..

Thanks for your replies, but i don't think IT falls under skilled category or shortage of skills category now in canada. So, can i directly apply for PR and then wait for it? after i get it, i can try my luck to spend 3 years there and get a citizenship?
Looks tough on paper as well. Are there any ways by which I can get an IT job in my field, like some certifications etc.
Also, in last 7 years in Indian IT, I have tried several companies, but couldn't ever make it to onsite. Just my luck, so I wanna try and do it myself.
Any suggestions on how to go about it, and things to do before getting to canada for an IT professional?
I also read some info on canada immigration site and they have specified that from 1-oct-2010, any employer who is hiring an immigrant needs to get signoff from labor market, or something similar. This again sounds trouble.
Am very confused, but my main aim is to settle down in canada (if possible).
Thanks,
Sumit
Sumit,
I understand your frustration and sure that you must have done your homework before coming to this decision. Not sure how much this will help but I hope that you find following useful.
1) What are your expectations once you land here in Canada (on WP to start with)?
2) Since the option is only to come on WP, then you may have to be extremly lucky to get decent salary from either Indian or foreign employer. You will have to sort of stick to the employer till your PR gets processed. Once you have PR you will probably wati for 4.5 to 5 years to get citizenship. so approximately 6 to 8 years on immigration path before you can actually get settled in Canada. worst case scenario you will be 40 by the time you get Canadian passport. This is on immigration side (Immigration pundits can correct the timeline)
3) you are anIT professional and you will find them dozen a dime here. Most of the time local companies asks for "Canadian experience" before they hire you. The salary would be anywhere between 40K to 70K. Assuming worst case scenario, with 30K you will not be able to live a decent life with family compared to the kind of lifestyle you are having with 11 lakhs.
I don't think there are any better career prospects here either. you may have to even join as Jr. Oracle developer (if you are lucky).
So workwise situation will most likely be similar or worst than what you currently have.
4) Did you consider other countries like UK, US etc.? Why did you shortlist Canada?
5) Since you changed lot of companies, did you try to stick with a comapny for sometime? I know sometimes it is frustrating that you do not get to get out.
I would really recommend you to do little more study about Canada before completely counting on it.
Though based on your post I would say that you are on right track (given the sufficient timeline and reality check etc). I think things will definitely work for you either in India or abroad during that time.
Good luck!
Sumit
i can understand what u go through when stagnant, others, people consider options since they may not be lucky. Choosing PR is best option for any one since its PR from day 1, for UK its Teir 1 but no PR immediately. People have to take risk to get to better world , but initially it may be not rosy , but in the long run could be fruitful. i too am thinking of applying for PR but dont know if under the "1122 Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management" we Software Professional will FIT. Also how Canadian authority will check if Software Professional falls under 1122, do they call up your cmpany to find out, please let us know . Also is there a CAP of 1000 PRs only for years to come
thanks -Kumar
