Hi everyone out there!
I am a Civil Engineer graduated from USA (master's) and immigrated here. Trying hard to find job but in vain. Have some years of experience in US with Land Development (Site Design) company and some years of experience in construction and design back home.
Guys really need your help and suggestions or reference to land job. I would really appreciate every input in this regard.
Thanks
Godswill,
If you the office kind of person, try getting a P.Eng/CET designation and apply for designer and inspector jobs in firms through their websites or through common job sites like Workopolis, Monstor etc. There is a lot of competition here and very few jobs. Alternative is to work on a construction site starting as site administrator moving on to Ast. Supervisor, finishing supervisor and then Lead Superintendent which are better paying jobs (with a ton of work, stress, responsibities and liabilities). You can move to other positions like PM, Construction Manager etc with this experience.
Contact Hays personell who specialize with this and related professions. Also you can walk into a site and contact the Supervisor. If the superintendent says he cannot help you, ask when the PM or CM is on site and make sure to meet them and present them your resume. They might keep you in mind for another site or job.
Dont forget to get WHIMIS and Fall Protection training certificates before entering a site. Also Get yourself a reflective safety vest, a hard hard and CSA approved steel toed shoes and wear them when you enter a site. This will be the best way to present yourself that you are a serious candidate.
Also a lot companies that do specialized construction services like concrete forming, shoring, structural steel, structural glazing, railings etc need civil engineers. So when you are in and around a site get the names of these companies and call them, email them and apply online.
All the best.
