Hello ,
I am a civil engineer with 12 years experience in the execution of multistoried buildings. I would like to get some advice from senior desis regarding my future career plans. I am planning to move to Alberta after I land probably by next month. My specific points of concern are these :
1. Do I need to done my credential evaluation from India. If so which agency I should approach, University of Toronto or any private agencies.I have a BE and MTech.
2. If I receive a P.Eng from India ( From Institution of Engineers), will it have some advantage in Canada.
Valuable advice from fello desis from the same profession is highly appreciated
Thanks
Zubs
Welcome To Canada.
You can do your credentials evaluation in Canada. Need not to be in a hurry. I am year last two years and I am yet to do my credential evaluation. I have a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering and a master degree..................
I don’t understand to a certain extent about your P.Eng. from Institution of Engineers, India. P.Eng certificate is issued in North America.........USA and Canada.
Wishing you a for a happy landing and a good luck for your job search from coast to coast
Hi,
Thanks for the greetings. So I guess I better land before winter starts and without waitng for the credentials.
About P.Eng , The institution of engineers now conducts examinations and they issue PEng Certificate to eligible candidates. They says it is at par with international standards, but CCPE doesent accept this I guess. Any how more details can be found from the link http://www.ieindia.org/certifi_peng.htm
So it is possible to obtain a job without these certificates too.. isnt it?
Thanks again
Zubs
What r u looking for? Assurance that everything will be fine in the wonderland ? Go thru charcha and you will find info on civil engg.
Just copying the name, PEng, does not mean that the standards are same everywhere. Imitating north american names (without quality or standards) is one of the biggest ailment in India.
Since you are moving to Alberta where job prospects for anyone on this land is good (for someone who can read and write english), you could be lucky.
(btw, I am a civil engineer with a AMIE from India that has no value)

Even in my wildest dreams, I never thought of working as a civil engineer in Canada. I know the professional degrees from india doesent even have its paper value there. I am just hoping to get some cash jobs and if i am luckier some office jobs. what you have said is true, Since I am watching this forum for the last few months, I have a vague idea of what to expect in Canada. but still I want to give it a shot. though I have plans to move alberta, I heared welders, equipment operators, technitians have more openings there. So I might be thinking of taking one of these.
Zubs, how are you? and where are you located now??? have you got a job??
I will be landing in Toronto only by the end of this month. Will try to settle down there if I find some job . I will be staying some where near Thornhill or woodridge after landing. Then planning to move depends on the job.
