We have moved to canada from USA on work permit. Initially, i will not have government health insurance plan for first 4-5 months. My employer has welcome plan and Great West Insurance plan. I have called near by doctor and they are saying that they can not take new patients.

How do I approach in this case? I am in urgent need of medical care.

if you can tell why exactly you looking of urgent medical care then we may able to guide you in the right direction.

For example - just for fever - doesn't make sense to go to hospital

For urgent medical care go to any "walk in" clinics. You can also call 1 800 797 0000 and they will guide you as to what type of care is available to you.

Thanks for response. I was looking for my wife for Prenatal Tests. I called so many doctors and no one is accepting new patients. On top of it, I don't have Ontario Health Card as I am new Immigrant, they do not even put me in Waiting List.

I have been to Walk In Clinic and so far experience is not good. I have read that doctor can not decline taking patients in case of pregnancy. Is there anyway, I can get proper family doctor?

I ran into this situation a few years back when my wife was expecting. And it was stressful finding a doctor. The first one we found (a lady doctor of desi heritage) was absolutely horrible. We changed doctors after a couple of visits and the next one (also of desi heritage) was the opposite, she was VERY good.

Point being, it is a bit of a challenge finding a good doctor but not impossible and for your situation, it makes sense to spend time looking for a good doctor. I am not familiar with Brampton so hopefully some other folks can make recommendations. In the meantime, check out link below to find a doctor in your area and some patient reviews...
