I am looking to buy a Link House in Markham Area. However the prices of houses with finished basements with apartments and a separate entrance is outrageous these days.
If I buy a house with basement how difficult it will be for me to create a separate entrance (including via garage) ?
Can it be done by myself or will I need a professional for sure?
Please advise

Sorry, don't have an answer. But what's a link house?

well BL
Link houses are detached housed linked by a garage or basement.
Most houses in Markham are Link houses and a narrow gap beween two adjoining houses. Since there is very little space on the sides, it is v difficult to make a side entrance. So I am wondering what options are there as many houses have apartments in basements but dont mention separate entrance.

I would use a professional - you may have to check with your city to see if you have the require permits. My recommendation as your home is your biggest investment is to not do it cheap!. Get a qualified contractor and use good materials - it will add to the value of the hous over the long term

You need a permit from the city. I would suggest you to get a professional to do this job. It will cost you between C$4000 to C$ 5000 (only entrance).

Thanks and regards.
