Hi All,
I came to Canada in 2004. Got citizenship in 2007. I have a savings account with SBI in India which is inoperative for some time now. I had to keep the account open when I left India due to some cpf dues were to go directly in that account, which is around 5 lacs. Now, I am stuck with that money held in the account. What are my options? Can I just close that account and withdraw all amount when I visit India ? Any other suggestion ?
Thank you all in advance.
Guruji
You can make the account operative easily if you know some one in SBI and use that money for your expenses there.
Now SBI is all internet friendly.
I just wrote a mail to SBI that I need my old account closed as I have a new salary account. They did not even want to see me but transferred my money.
However, I am not sure if you were on the computeriszed account of SBI in 2004.
Just write to the manager of the branch (internet) and find out. Give your account number.
SBI is totally changed these days and very internet friendly.

Thanks for the reply friends and sorry for my late response. My concern is, can I operate that account when I am Canadian citizen now. Can I open an NRI/NRO account and transfer that money into new account?
Thanks again for the suggestions.
