Folks ,

I have a visitor from India who has high BP and the medication has finished... The person is here for another one month ...

Though the person has Travel Insurance , but my fear is that blood pressure being a preexisting condition may not be covered .. So now the qs are :

a. If we have the medicine generic name , can we get it from the Pharmacy based on an Indian prescription ?

b. If the above is no , which is a reasonably priced clinic / hospital to visit and get a prescription for the condition . And how much should such a consultation cost ?

c. Are there any community health centers who can help in such a situation ?

Advice is appreciated .

I'd think you could visit a walk-in and request a prescription after a checkup. My dad did that for a different reason and we paid $70 for the visit plus the cost of drug.

Fido try your family Dr . He might be able to prescribe the medicine at the lowest cost and may give out some free samples .

Agreed with Dimple and Ashwani. Moreover send the bill to insurance company anyway. They do cover some of the routine pre-existing condition such as normal BP and diabetes prescription. Good luck!

Thanks Folks ,

The pressure has subsided since morning . I shall be speaking with my Physician tomorrow & if needed will visit a walk in and provide the receipt to the Insurance Company .. as advised..

When I was in a similar situation like this, I took a person with high BP to the walk in clinic and the doctor prescribed some BP lowering medications for him. I then bought it at the pharmacy and have it to the person who had high BP and whose medications had run out.

This is one alternative.
