Hi CDs,
If a person is visiting Canada on a visitor visa, who should they contact for a general checkup? For example, if they have a fever/cough, etc, how do they get a checkup done? I read online that you should visit a 'Family Doctor' but since the person is a visitor, how does he/she manage it?
Is there a concept of walk-in clinics where you could go and visit a doctor? Also, does Travel Insurance got in India (like ICICI) cover such expense? I am living in Mississauga, near SQ 1, is there any such good Walk-in Clinic around this place?
Any information would help. Appreciate any guidance on this topic.
Thanks,
- W
You can approach a walk in or take them to your faamily doctor. The doc would charge $30/50 depending upon your relations with him/her and treat.
If you have a medical coverage, attach this receipt along with otther docs and you will be PAID for the same.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
VJ.
Thanks VJ. Appreciate your help! I needed some more info on some health care topics. Do you know of any website which i could refer? I have the following questions -
Does one particular walk-in clinic have doctors for all ailments? I mean, suppose the person is suffering from muscle cramps or suffering from cold or just needs his/her blood pressure checked. Can they visit the same walk-in clinic? Or do they need to search which walk-in clinic in their area caters to which ailments?
I am not clear about the concept of 'family doctor' as well. I have been in canada for a year on a Work Permit, do i automatically get assigned a 'family doctor'?
These are probably basic questions but i am absolutely clueless. Any help would be great!
Thanks again,
- W
Hi webkinzie,
In Canada, everything starts from a Doctor. For an example: You can not go and ask a doctor that you want a blood test. However, once you approach a doctor, he/she will guide/refer to you to a specialist if required.
You can either go to a Walk in clinic (you dont require to be on a FILE with them as a registered patient). Depending upon the area and comfortable distance, you can select a Doctor, who is a registered family physician. He will have all your medical history of treatments, reports etc..
www.ontariodoctordirectory.ca is a good resource for the same.
Hope this heelps,
Regards,
Thanks VJ. I shall look into the site.
