Canada would surely love to get Foreign Students into Canada for studies. But they are not that friendly when it comes to scholarships and funding. They want to you to pay double the fees and No scholarships too.

Here is a small suggestion. You have good acandemic standing and also the GRE and TOEFL scores, that will get you into any University or College that will permit you to finish your Degree or a Diploma course in an year. So, choose one that will suit your liking, a field that you want to pursue.
After an year apply for a Work Permit, they might throw in a Three year Work Visa. During that time get your P.Eng., I am sure with your academic scores and great standing, you will ace all of the Exams. That is one route to take. You also can think about M.A.Sc., at that time.

Also currently they are permitting students to work on Campus or away from it also. It might be to your advantage.

UBC has a great program that lasts an year and a bit for M.Sc. and they will also throw in the rest of the year with a job and small pay for experience, like a Co-op Program. See if that suits your liking.

Toronto did well for a long time, recently there seems to be a small glitch in the Renewable Energy program. I have not kept pace with it. What I heard is that there are a lot of proposals that have been put on hold for reasons unknown. So, that goes for MAC here locally. But the Automotive field has picked up pace and currently rolling in dough, that is with the Battery technology and Renewable Energy sector. So, MAC is a very good choice. Also see if MAC will absorb the tution fees or provide you with a scholarship also.

Similar Research work is being undertaken by the Concordia University in Montreal, but I have no knowledge about its funding. But they are the best there is in Electrical Engineering in Canada. So, see their web links too.

Alternately, I am sure you will not only get an entrance in TEXAS A & M, I am sure if you try a little hard, might get a decent scholarship too in the USA at that location. Try and ask for one before getting in.

You have only TWO Months to think and act, so be fast in your approach to them. I will provide you a few links under here for you to use and think about your line of attack on both the sides of the border.

Good luck.

FH.

If you are looking for more liberal scholarships,TA, RA, fees waivers etc .... try US
If you want to get a Permanent Resident card quickly .... try Canada. But you pay.

Hello, again sir. Thanks for your prompt reply for my queries.

I am really confused at this point of time regarding my masters study.

The course offered in UBC in clean energy is very attractive option for me.
But the admission fee is prodigious to say at least. I'll have to fork out around 20 Lacks for the course and needless to say ,that if I take a loan it will be a taking a leap of faith.
In case I go for MEng not MAsc. I have to be pragmatic to select the field of study. Any other sector/field in Electrical engg U can suggest that are presently in high demand in Canada?
Anyways it will be very helpful if you can tell me is there any other option is Canada like part time work, TA, RA available for me to at-least recover 50% of money ? Also please provide me with feedback about COOP programs. Do I need to pay extra for CoOp programs and how useful are they for the future opportunities?

Regarding US, yes as your suggestion I am looking into US universities.
TEXAS A & M you mentioned were you talking about PHd or MS programs ?

i think due to my lack of publications I think its just difficult to get funding in US don't you agree?
that being said can you suggest any other Universities in US where I have better funding opportunity MS ?

Thanks for you reply
I know PR is very speedy process in Canada compared to other countries? Still cost of study in Canada is huge? But still a lot of people take loan and go there.

How do they manage? I mean in terms of part time jobs, RA etc are they very difficult to get ? If you have any insight or suggestions please share with me .

Thx.

The employment picture in Canada is in a state of flux. So, it is very hard to predict where you will end up after completion of your studies. But I can always say, some one will provide you with an employment here with a minimum salary. (No figures, as the employer is the one who will decide at the start of your emplyment with him/ them)

Anyone who is desirous of studying in Canada will have to have the initial back up from the point of start, in your case from India, for the duration of your studies. Without which, the successful completion of the courses will come to a grinding halt. So, the Student Visa process demands it. If you are not ready with the required figures for the study, please continue with your employment there and build up such a financial backing.

From the information provided by you in your initial post, I am sure that you will be successful in your efforts into your Higher Educational efforts. My backing you in your efforts are more than a leap of faith. They are in regards to your efforts and in your success, based upon your initial inputs. We do not see people of your caliber posting here, requesting for evaluation and assistance. Success comes to those who Persevere. I encourage you and so do many others on this board.

As regards the application processing etc., they are based upon the requirements of each of the Universities' and their fee structure. Some will charge you a lot for the Co-Op programs. See the suitablity of such an University. For starters, not many Universities offer such a scheme for Immigrants. So, you hit a road block even before you get started. But B.C. seems to be slightly different. Hence my suggestions to you to see if they are slightly a better selection, out of the lot. Then again you will need the required funds before you get started. Any other funding received while studying will be a bonus.

The projected requirements here in Canada for the next Five years for Electrical Engineers are in the range of 5,000 or so. I do not have a breakdown of the cross section of Engineers and hence unable to point to the direction you can take. Will they generate them here. NO. Will they get them. NO. So there will be a short fall of them and you can surely aim for a job in that field through your studies and subsequent work permit process. Here I suugested for you to enroll into a College and Look for a Certificated Course lasting just ONE year. Look for a Three Year Worh Permit after your studies. Do your P.ENG. while you are at it. Cost About 10 lakhs. How successful you will be depends upon your in puts and efforts into each of the Exams you will be going through.

An Engineering student went through TEXAS A & M a few years ago and did obtain a scholarship at that location with similar standing. Hence my suggestions that you also make an attempt with them. Look for a scholarship before you join them. All of these are attempts that you will have to make, after researching, in your spare time. We only point and whistle to show you the right direction.

I walk holding your hands, hoping that the knowledge that we possess does not go to waste. It helps the progeny in furthering their ambitions and make life a little easier by imparting a few useful suggestions at the right time and see if it is suitable to your liking. If I succeed in helping one out of a hundred, that is par for the course on an Internet based help line.

Get back to us after your evaluation.

FH.
