Maybe very few and far between , but I feel Indian cinema is churning out some good movies and though in lesser numbers , songs also ...

I watched some good Indian movies recently .. or maybe they appeared good to me ...

a. Luck by Chance ... Farhaan Akhtar
b. Chakravyuh
c. Dhoom 3 ... watched in theater ..AK brings a new inimitable avtar every time...
d. Ranjhanaa
e. Oh my God

These days I m watching ( in parts ) - Vicky Donor ...looks good so far ...

OK OK I know the thread was about music .... See how difficult it is to coin new melodies and the melody world gets saturated ..... but still some very beautiful songs ... I listen to ( actually watch ) and never get bored are ...

from Tanu Weds Manu

a. Rangrez Mere
b. Kitney dafe dil ne kaha

I know they are very less these days but once in a while a good seed sprouts and brings enjoyment ...

To the Golden music time heard some where that even today on FM the most requested songs on FM are those of Kishore Kumar ....

Jagjit Singh obviously is a timeless classic ... Such depth in voice ..... please listen to songs from another lesser known Hindi movie .. btw shot in Calgary -- 'Tum Bin ' ...

happy New Year Everyone !!!

This is next, Hiren :-). What do you think? Reminds me of a dial-up modem in the 90s, but hey, this is what the teens here like today. And therefore, it is only a matter of time before Bollywood picks it up.

I share your feelings. The last album I bought was "Raanjhana", but didn't felt it was worth the $9.99 spent. Didn't bother to spend money on "Highway" - the music is hummable but certainly not worth spending my money.

This guy is still gaga over ARR, but I think ARR is past his due date. Pritam and SEL doesn't seem to give anything new. And I am not a fan of Coke Studio either - tried to listen to some songs, but found more of a cacophony of instruments rather than music. Hope "Haider" brings some much needed fresh air

These day, all the top 10 on Saavn or Gaana belong to Honey Singh - certainly not my cup of tea

True. I have stopped listening to any new Bollywood songs altogether. Heck, I am not even following for good. same lyrics, singers that sound alike, Honey Singh, Mika. On the radio, I have switched to the Talk Radio for my morning/evening commute. Way more interesting and engaging than the dull/boring Bollywood filth that they call music nowadays.

In a way, I think it's good - I am spending or wasting a lot less time in downloading songs, and rather sticking to the existing playlist containing the evergreen Jagjit Singh, Hindi oldies from 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, Even, the songs from 90s sound more nostalgic and melodious (remember the era of Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan?) if compare them with the current lot.

ARR is another fatality. He already lost his touch big time. I was ecstatic with his 'Highway' numbers, but the charm faded in a few weeks. Plain boring.

Coke Studio - barring a few, it's also repetitive. Pakistan has more variety in CS than its Indian counterpart. On a related note, I think Pakistan still has some quality music left in its kity - try some songs from Quratulain Balouch. They are a quality, e.g. Ankhian Nu Ren De, Woh Humsafar Tha, etc. Or, Strings (the band). Way better than the Bollywood CRAP.

Once again, RIP hindi music.
