Hi everyone,
I have read through many of the posting here in canadiandesi. some of them look frustrated with their lives and jobs here(well most of them, it looks like).
I have just landed 3 weeks back and yet to get my SIN by mail. Waiting for that.
I used to live in USA for 4 years. Got laidoff from IT and had to struggle for any job which came my way for survival. I knew there would be some IT jobs there in bangalore but did not know would get a job or not.
As days went by in bangalore i saw may job opportunites on IT pretty impressive than compared to usa. Days went by and saw nearly 90%of the people having cell phones. Pretty good i believe. I see a lot of cars around.
But the most important thing i noticed was the CALL CENTER JOBS in bangalore, man they are looking for people to get them into these jobs and you know what if you show like one year exp. you will get around 15,000INR per month. With that money you can buy a brand new car like santro or Maruthi 800. I am not talking about any old one's like 1980's or 90's. I am talking about brand new one's.
The company pick's you up and drop's you home for free. They provide free food and all. 5 days a week job and i saw some of the call center guys pretty happy about the job and the pay.
So if you get a IT job there, you could imagine how much you will be paid and how much more money you can save.
So was very much impressed with bangalore(i dont know about any other city so please forgive me if i am wrong).
Nice weather and good people pretty much educated in bangalore.
Never felt for a second that i did a bad thing by leaving usa. I started loving bangalore.
Now i did not want to land a job there, as i had my PR for canada and wanted to see how the life will be there and whether i could settle in canada or bangalore, need to decide right before coming to conclusion.
So my wife got a good call center job getting 15k/month as they would land later once i find myself something in canada to live. Did not know whether i would stay for more than 4 months. Need to make decisions so that age factor would come into play as i am 33 now.
So i landed in toronto 3 weeks back now live in scarborough, i got a palce for 380$/month. pretty good price i guess.
I went to HRDC to apply for SIN they said would take 3 weeks. Then applied for PR card may be 5-6weeks(i dont know).
I tell you it is pretty much tough working in construction jobs or labour jobs something like this. But i think money always stays with you but you forget how you earned it(i guees, you need to forget how you earned it, right, so that i wont be a nightmare).
So i see a lot of labour jobs around here, starting from 8-10$/hr. May be good to have some money before you could land your kind of job.(This is from my point of view only).
So i think it is better in bangalore getting an 30-40k/month with a nice new car and with family around and save money for the kid, than struggling here in extreme cold weather and fighting it out for better tomorow.
Compared to education here and bangalore, i think it is the same because there are real good schools in bangalore.
I dont know my plans might change but if i am getting a job in customer serivce or something like that, i would be interested in working in bangalore where i will be picked from my house and dropped back home and save money too, because after one year of joining the company you will be promoted as project leads and all.

This is only my point of view of canada and bangalore, forgive me if i have hurt anybody for saying something as i am just a new immigrant.

Hi,

I am also from Bangalore. If I say Bangalore is better then will you return back to Bangalore?

Don't forget that life is not so easy any where in the world. In Bangalore you have to compete with hard core techi guys at your level. Don't think that if you return back from US then Jobs will be served for you at your dining table.

When I was in Bangalore for few day, I took interview of one US return guys and rejected him, coz he didn't had much confidence on the technologies he was showing on his CV.

I know few friends returned from UK and working in small company, It does not matter from where you are coming, you have to proof yourself everywhere.

Cheers
Raj.

Guys rule of thumb... Stay on in Banmgalore (or any Indian city) for now. The day they start implementing "Pvt. Sector reservations" then make a move :)

Hi parhar

"Is Canada good or bad than..so.. and.. so ?" is a wrong question i guess. I would like to rephrase it to "Is canada good or bad for me or you?" Its just how things go with you when you are in canada. I have recently arrived (2 months) in canada and i have got a decent job. I would be thankless person if i dont like canada as of now.

Coming back to your comparison. I think its not good way to judge from cell phones and cars visibility. I agree with you that you start off with 15000 INR and you could afford basic luxuries and live like a king but then we know india there is no shortages of skilled labour and places like canada and USA always had shortages. I remember when MBA was very hot while i was doing graduation in chd. Everybody was doing MBA. Value of MBA's went down and MBA became a norm even for a sales person. Then it was IT profession and now that is also fading away.

You have few edges than any other person who has come from India. You have US experience and that will help you get through a bit easier than others. If you are good in your job i am hopeful that you will find a good job. If you are in canada forget about bangalore i would suggest and give it a full fledged shot.. i am sure you will get what you are looking for..

prahar, u have written up yr experiences so sincerely and nicely that I am very impressed and would like to offer you my best wishes in yr job search. u r rite, the money stays with u (as long as u can save it) and hardships become softer as time goes by. but if u can get a good job in india which keeps u and yr family happy, by all means stay there and enjoy yr life, u only live once after all :). if u can make it in canada, stay here, otherwise there is no point in slogging it all alone while yr wife and family are away from u. if u have options then u r lucky that u do, most people don't have options, so good luck in whatever u choose and i hope things work out for u. :)

i am back :)

Its the ubiquotous q ?? And subjective replies as well.

In India salaries are rising and middle class income is increasing and in a place like B'lore u get excellent climate and crowd (v/s North) and god place 2 settle down as well -- well laid out . Ur own society , culture and comfort , not 2 mention the career rise .Earning 15 K 2day cud mean 40K 2mrw --- and so on what more can a man ask .? Definitely a formidable option .

Canada hmmm what do u get here . Firstly the feeling of being in the 1st world . The moment u exit India ur vistas change .U think in terms of Europe and Far East instead of B'lore & M'bai by ur Indian counterpart . Definitely the weather is severe but the community and infratructure is smthing u dont and wud never get n India . May b u r struggling right now 4 a 2-3 years and feel homesick as well but look @ it as 10 years hence . Ur child going 2 an Am / Ca University and being in the tp league .Of course u dont get the culture and Indianness . U MAKE THE CHOICE .
