Carrying a laptop from a stranger literally change your life upside down . There is stuff ( software ) that is prohibited to be imported in many countries and carry very harsh punishments when caught .
Help is great but do your due diligence .

I am really surprised at the OP's question.
There can be drugs or Gold hidden in the laptop and no one will ever take the risk. We have been advised never to take parcels from those who you donot know.
On the other hand, one can take the laptop, sell it to their friends in Calgary and simply run away to India. There have been examples of that.
Please courier it to India or take it there by yourself.

I have in the past taken packages from friends and acquaintances to India and back. All this because it is our inbuilt Desi mentality to save couple of dollars every way possible.
For the person who carries stuff, it is a absolute nuisance. In addition, they ask you to post it upon reaching India to their towns.
On the way back, their relatives in India send back couple of kgs worth of stuff via travelers in-spite of knowing about the reduced luggage requirements.
The postal services and delivery shipment companies exist for a reason. USE THEM!!!

Once in 2002, I went to India. One dude in my group , bought all chocolates from One dollar store, Junk from 1 $ store and made me carry it to TN. I had to courier it to Bangalore.
I called his family in 2011 when I was in Bangalore. She told me that she had some visitors and that she will call me back and tehn she did not even care to call me. This is Desi mentality.
