Be warned!!!!!

On the day of your citizenship test, after the test itself you will be interviewed by a citizenship judge/clerk who will check your documents, give you your test results and ask you any questions that they feel they need to.

At this point, I was asked to prove my time in Canada. This is done by using the stamps in your passport. If like me, when you travel to your home country they do not stamp your passport, how do you prove your dates?????

Canadian immigration do not keep track of when you leave Canada, so this cannot be used either.

On the day of my test I was asked to provide boarding passes, airline tickets, etc!!!!! Which would prove my travel movements. Who keeps these for the last 5 years???????

This was the very FIRST time that I was told to produce such items. Which I found really unfair. If I had known this was going to happen, I would have made a point of keeping everything. If I could not prove my time out of the country, then I was told my application would have to be completely reviewed.

So, keep all your travel documentation!!! Also pay for any airline tickets with a Canadian credit card. In Canada, your ticket number is used as a reference on your credit card statement. You can then give this to the airline for copy tickets. This was the only way I could prove my dates in Canada!!! Phew! Air Canada provided me my copy tickets within 2 days by email attachment.

Hope this helps!! I wish someone had warned me!

A real serious thing to know.

This outrages me.. I was travelling to US all the time , but never traveled after a 31 may 2011 to US . that was my birthday btw and that was last day i traveled importing my car. but I had no stamping on passport of entry to canada ( road travel). The officer did not do it. I was oblivious of its importnace so did not ask. This raised doubt that I did not come back from US for unspecified time ! Issue in comaprison to OP is that I had no ticket, no invitation from my client to prove my travel. It was actually a visit to dmv to import my car ( different story in itself) .

Eventually, my process of citizenship is delayed by almost an year now. I had to get information from CBSA and CBP ( Us border agency) to prove my point. . My current status is decision made. I am waiting for the oath for past one month after this decision made status is updated online.

If i am given another chance to take citizenship examination I 'll take a truck load of documents and place in front of that invigilator to explain him why i brought them. and actually I have truck load of documents sitting in my study for this purpose.

Only smart thing i could do was i applied separately from my family. they got the oath after 10 days of taking examinations and are citizens for past one year. I was the primary applicant :-)

These days all your booking and ticketing is online ... But yes that's not the boarding pass .

I recall when I was asked to verify my US visits , I had sent a letter to FOIA ( Freedom of Info ) US and they had replied back in a couple of months of my US visit details ...

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have test date on August 22 2015 and i am in the same boat as you. I travelled USA by road in 2009 and came back to canada by road on april 2010. Canadian border didn't stamp my passport for arrival. Now i don't know how to provide proof of arrival. i never went out of canada since april 2010 and so i have no stamps since then. I would like your suggestion what are the other options.

1) Can i provide job letter or pay slip. These document can prove i am working in canada?
2) what information we can request from CBSA and what do they ask for?
3) I did my PR card renewal in april 2012, Will this help to prove that i am canada since then. if i count days from 2012, i still stayed more than 3 years.

Your reply will be highly appreciated. I just want carry all the required documents to prove my stay in canada to avoid any more delays.

Thanks

When they will ask you for your US visits , they will also provide you the means to acquire this info.
