2 lakh/month is not really a lot of money if you factor in that most of the IT employees do not own their home. Their expensive 3BHK flat costs around 1 crore plus presently. Calculate the EMI.
Then assuming one has two kids and as an NRI you will want to send your kids to an Elite school(there is a huge demand for DPS like schools). This alone will eat up close to 50K/month. Add car cost etc.

Agree with points 1 (work-culture part) & 3. Not 2. 2 lakh/per month is a lot of money in Blr or anywhere in India, esp if you have taken care of the biggest expense (purchased flat). You can lead a luxurious life n even save some with that amount in that case.

If people in Canada can lead a decent life with 2 lakh/per month sal (4k CAD), even after paying 1/3rd on rent, do u think it's not sufficient in blr when they already own a house??

My 2 cents are as follows:

1) If you are going back, make absolutely sure that you are going to be self-employed or with entrepreneurial ideas. You will very likely not survive the work culture, work politics, long work hours and the "Yes-Boss" culture.

2) Plan to live in a small town or Tier-B city for good education for kids, good work-life balance, savings and pollution free living. You cannot even imagine how fast your 2 lakh/per month salary will disappear in Bangalore. Anything less than this figure will greatly affect your quality of life(and your wife will affect yours ;) )

3) The number one paramount rule is: Do not move to Bangalore if your work place is not within 2 km of where you live. The traffic hell in Bangalore has simply no other equivalent in the world. It is a virtual "moving parking lots" at all times of the day.

Even as i write this column, i have 3 of my friends in Bangalore in well established IT jobs preparing to immigrate to Canada.

Best,

Sri.

I get your point. I was talking from my perspective (newly married/no kids).

Also, broadleysmart has stated that he plans to buy a flat with 50 Lakhs. So if he pays full amount n buys a flat, rent/loan is 1 major expense avoided.

Hyderabad has similar problems like Bangalore including worst traffic, dust and pollution.
To me ... food and rents are better in Hyderabad than Bangalore.

That, unfortunately, you can't stay away from - whether be it B'lore, H'bad, Gurgaon, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai. Traffic mess is an inherent issue in India's first tier cities, where you also have plenty of jobs concentrated.

Second tier cities don't have that many options, and actually are gradually moving to the messy infrastructure as well. Case in point, Chandigarh. It's small, well planned, and beautiful. However, my acquaintances that are from the city, and that visit it quite often confided with me about the spate of the traffic that has worsen over the past few years. Moreover, Real Estate is now in Crores with very less industry and quality jobs.

When you're planning to live in India, you need to make certain sacrifices in terms of pollution, dust, traffic, etc. Given what you can afford (~50 Lakhs), it's nigh impossible to find everything at one place - that too without pollution and traffic mess.

Or, stay put until you save enough (~2-4 Crores) before you could move to an Indian Metro of your choice. That's the reality, my dear friend.

Looks like, B'lore is quite affordable if you compare it with Delhi's decent neighborhoods.

Hello,

Biggest question before you make move is, are you going to work in India?
if yes, then find out which city you see more opportunity in your field and get a job there and think about buying house later.
else, you could consider tier-2/3 cities as well, like Mysore/Vellore/ and many more

if question is specific to Bangalore, then with my past exp I would say it's one of the best city to live in India.
Weather wise it's awesome(not as awesome as it used to be 10-15 years before), little better than pune.
People do understand English/Hindi and they do cooperate.
You can easily get condos/apartment starting from 30 lacs in not so good area.
Commute is not that bad if you know alternate routes and commute during off peak hours.

Both Toronto and Bangalore has it's advantages and disadvantages..
If winter and thought of living faraway from india doesn't bother you and you have a good social circle here then Toronto is better.
