In North America, after well-known brands you are likely to see some Chinese brands mainly through online sites. For smaller companies, India is a big enough market with enough scope of expansion before they look to venture out of India.

The main reason is that India and North America have different frequencies. While as in India the phones work on 900 / 1900 band, in North America it is 850 / 1800. This is the reason you need a quad band phone from here when you travel to India.
Secondly most of Indian "manufacturers" get their phones from China, though some companies have set up facilitate recently for manufacturing in India.
