Immigration : Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP)

The UK announced on December 13, 2001 a new points-based system for entry to the UK of highly skilled migrants. The program is designed to allow individuals with exceptional personal skills and experience to come or remain in the United Kingdom, to seek and take work. It is a new way of allowing individuals to migrate to the United Kingdom. It aims to provide an individual migration route for highly skilled persons who have the skills and experience required by the United Kingdom to compete in the global economy.

You can qualify for HSMP based on your qualifications, work experience and achievements in a particular field. This program was designed to encourage the entry of people to the UK to seek employment who are probably already earning a high salary and are very successful in their home country.

Does any1 have knowledge of the success rate and timelines of this process?? Pls share .

1. Wud UK Migration b better than Canadian ?? I ve heard that Europe is costlier .

2. Recently the UK has controlled the post- education residence of foreign students who used 2 take up jobs after education . This seems 2 b a contradictory move .

3. Y is HSMP such a low profile program if it has so many benefits . Is it coz its new ?

Timeline is very short, one to two weeks. They are very particular about your achievements and earnings. If you can proof these two then you will definitely get.

My friend has got in two weeks time.

Thanks

My friend attained a successful UK immigration within one month (1 year ago)
What I know is that to be eligible for the immigration proamme was quite tough, specially the financial criteria.
The friend I mentioned is already on his way back to the ME as he did not succeed in UK.

Yes this program is currently running in UK for highly skilled people.
The propram is divided into two parts one is for people "under 28" and another is for people "over 28".

The initial processing time line for the program was one week but now due to high number of applications it is taking over 6 weeks (nothing compared to what it takes to migrate to Canada).

A) It could be better for some while for some Canada is better, yes Europe is costlier but pay rates here some what justify the expenses.
Like a SAP consultant here gets in the region of GBP 35000/yeah, while similar in Canada will fetch in the region of CAD 70,000-80,000.

B) UK is planning to come out with a scheme for Science and Engineering graduates from UK universities to work in UK for one year after graduation, the pilot scheme was suppose to begin in summers but it has not yet been implemented, It will be implement in late october now.

C) HSMP is in its second year, the reason it has kept under a low profile by the governement is because the home office is facing humuliation in public on the asylem figures in the country and any other migration where foreigners are allowed to enter and put burden on the already axhausted national services will make things worse.

Hope this helps!
