As it is now. Which is Based on points system.

I think we all can agree that this (Skilled Categ immig) has become the most contentious part of the immigration policy and concerns most of us here on CD and other skilled people.

Very simply, why dont we have a work permit system (similar to H1 in USA)?

You invite a skilled person based on exactly the skill you want and With a confirmed Job offer. The person comes in Lives and once here and settled he / she can apply for PR (like in USA).

This would do away with the problems faced by the skilled people and also do away with getting recertified / doing advanced studies / canadian experience.

I know it is not that simple.

Canada still will get people from other categories and even If every work permit Guy brings his people (family/parents) you still have people coming in, which i understand is a problem as there is a dwindling population here.

I agree. But I have serious doubts on what Canada really wants. Methinks, the inside story says that it wants taxpayers only. They know CDs will not go on welfare. They know that CDs will work their asses off to work and keep away from welfare. They know that CDs will put their children thro university and those children will then eventually get better jobs and help buid Canada and also pay taxes. So what's wrong with that? And if there's nothing wrong then why change? :D

How do you know what they think? Did they send you a white paper on immigration policies and why it is the way it is because they think in the manner you say they think? If so, why not share that white paper with the other members of this site so that it can help them all - because that would be the fact, not an opinion.

If it is your opinion about immigration dept as to what they think, you are once again contradicting your own post under the topic ' careful with posts' where you advice that members should not, in no way atall, write their opinions on immigration on a public forum.

Canada has an active Work permit system. Many engineers recently came to work for a major utility firm here. I personally know some finance guyd who came from india on work permit and later changed to PR.

There is a small comment I would like to make about what Chandresh has written above.
A few weeks ago some very enlightened CD decided to pass on the url to this board to CIC.
Anyone can imagine what would be reaction of any influential person on reading some of the baseless crap that has been accumulated on this public forum.
If we end up riling up CIC, there is a very good chance that they will simply withdraw more of the staff from N Delhi making the current processing period of 58 months something like 10 years.
There are more than 170 countires in thsi world and most of the 3rd world professional are ready to pay in Gold to jump over to developed bandwagon. Canada wont lose any thing but those guys whose forms are being processed now will curse this board forever.
With great power comes great responsibilty.........one should be careful with what one types on a public forum.

If that is true that should be the only way to get skilled people. Why would they get an engineer (or doctor) on a work permit when there is already a good supply of skilled people who have come here through immigration...
