Hi All,
I am an IT Pro. having around 4 yrs of exp. in the field of C/C++, Windows device drivers, Windows systems programming, Java, J2EE and Enterprise application development, SQL, DB2. I am considering canadian immigration but before i make up my mind i want to have CD users view on it. What is the outlook of Canadian IT industry in the year 2007 any idea? Moreover I have worked with international clients based out of the US, Canada and UK and have worked in the UK for five months for a UK based client and by the time I land there, I might have worked for few more clients at onsite. So does Canadian industry recognize this experience? I am ready to switch my field but then, is it possible to get a high end job? I don't see any problem for myself as far as work ethos and behaviours are concerned as we are trained for how to deal with international customers and moreover I am doing that since the beginning of my career and will be doing that till i land up there? Any valuable suggestions from desi IT pros having settled there already would be of gr8 help.
Cheers,

bond007,
If u think u r so good, why do u want to come to Canada? As I know, things are good in my home town Bangalore. Salaries are increasing and jobs are plenty for exp. IT pros. U could become an executive there. Good salary and perks if you work for multinationals.
IT and telecom industry has gone thru a bad patch in Canada. Biggies like Nortel are still having problems. It's not those dot com boom anymore. May not be again for the near future.
Think hundred times before making a decision. If u want to come, develop your soft skills.
(hope I am not rude, just want to tell real picture as I see)

Hi DIO,
Thanks for ur reply and suggestions.
I accept this fact that scopes for an IT pro are not better any where else in the world other than India.
What I want to know is the scope of getting a high end job in some other field. I am a BE (Electronics & Telecomm) and by the time I plan to land there I would have gained some management experience, so keeping this in mind, do I hold any chances of getting a high end job in some other field? Having said so, what I want to know exactly is that whether any trend exists in Canada where u can switch fields and get high end jobs easily in a field other than ur own (which is not a case in India).
I also welcome your suggestion of improving my softskills. Can u fall some light on any specific skill(s) as soft skill is a very generic term and a lot comes under it.
Once again thank you very much for helping me for nothing in such a world where everything comes at a price.
Cheers,

bond007,
See my post on Jobs section (link below). I need to add some more:

I am puzzled with your thinking. U have IT background, you will have management exp by 2007. If u think u will get a high end job in Canada in some other field, then please tell me which field u think u r comfortable. Dont say any field. That's too general and vague. U need to have the knowledge in the field and should be comfortable with working in that field. Make a list of fields that u can work apart from IT.
Also think like an Canadian employer. Why should they want to hire a guy from India who has a bachelors degree and who claims to have management experience and who wants a high end job in Canada? How different is this person who has an MBA from top ten schools in Canada?

HO....HO....HO
It seems my mentioning of "high end" jobs has not gone well. But relax guys, I wasn't claiming anything, I was just inquiring. Moreover this was not purly out of my imagination. In UK I have seen this where few of my friends got jobs in other fields other than IT though they were in IT like me and that too despite of any formal education either in the field or from any UK university.
However, I have got the message.
Thank u all for ur replies.
