should i take up a 67k job(assistant professor job in mcmaster university @ hamilton)

If u r out of canada n planning to move to canada n u got this job before coming here then its GREAT! U should go for that!
U break VJ's record! :D

Dear Asstt. Professor,

67k is Great enuf to start with. However, getting 100k by 10 years may not be a good one, as by then you will know self-worth. If you are risk-taker, then within 2 years, I am sure, u r going to explore further better opportunitues. And if you want to settle down in one place, well then too 100k is a pretty good amount.

And Smartguy, what is VJ's record?

Regards.

Thanks Smartguy,

I guess, VJ's record stands intact. I am nowhere near that. Kudos to record-setters

People in Canada are still sleeping as it is 2 am in the morning now in Canada, and its been only few hours that you have posted.

How did you know where he was posting from when his location is blank?

Compared to...?

Scene 1:
You have no job - Don't you take what you are offered unless you wish to remain jobless?

Scene 2:
You have a job and are looking for a compare - More details required about your current job to do that.

how good is the money that i will be making as compared to others in hamilton

What exactly is your question? Who are "others" that you want compared with? Hamilton is a reasonably big place and has people from a wide spectrum. Very rich(people making more than a million a year) to the very poor(making 7dollars an hour).

is the money good enough for a family of four? (considering that i want to visit india once a year with my family..)

With C$67K as gross you will likely have a net of somewhere around C$4500 per month after deductions. Some others who are good at crunching numbers like crenshaw might give you a more accurate figure.

You have said that you are a family of 4 but have not written the ages of your children. Are they in university/college or in school? 67K is not good enough to fully support college going kids, especially if they live away from home.

Even assuming that they are in school, I do not think you will be able to save more than C$12000 to C$15,000 a year max. Don't ask me why? Money just seems to slip away unnoticed! And if you plan to visit India every year, and I presume it will be during holidays, you may very well write off C$1500 x 4 = C$6,000 on airfare + other associated expenses(gifts etc) of maybe a $1000. That will leave you with a saving of C$5000 to C$8000 per annum.

Summary: C$67K. Nothing to write home about, but good enough to keep you in reasonably shape here.

any idea about how much a house is going to cost me there

A 2 br house/apartment would cost you anywhere from C$850 to C$1200 a month. In some cases that includes hydro(the term for electricity here) and in others it does not.

I did not know his location. Did I need to know that? Whatever his location is/was, the 2:00 am morning time Canada wouldn't change, and I guess most Canadians sleep at that time ;)
