Hi 'akkiluk' and 'pakhi'
Looking for a place in Hamilton to live will be proper if you are working in Hamilton or nearby. Commuting to your work place 365 days for the next 40 years or so, is not an attractive proposition. I will provide you with the following links and hope you do find a place to live here. I also hope the job is nearby.
If you click on the second link, the multimap, you will see Hamilton at the foot of the bay. Burlington is the adjacent city. Hamilton is a Steel City. Most of the industries were based upon the steel production. The Population is close to half a million people. You can see the outying suburbs those were annexed to become a metropolitan city. They are counter clockwise Dundas, Flamborough, Ancaster, Glancaster, and Stoney creek. They are slowly settling down after the amalgamation and does have their teething troubles.
It is a very clean town, and comparable to any of the major metropolitan cities and has decent public transportation and not as efficient as the Toronto's TTC.
It generally takes about an hour to reach from down town to down town. GO Transit is a GOOD Link. In years to come, they will have a common link with a single fare system, between Toronto and Hamilton. That is still in the books and the dream has to become a reality. {GO Transit system's future plans}
As regards older homes, there are still some that are available, but needs a lot of fixing and needing insulations and roofing and sprucing etc., But the taxes are very high. The highest in Ontario. The newer ones are good,and affordable but the taxes are killing. Rentals are very good. Lot lower than TO.

Enjoy going through it. I did like the city and the attractions. Once a Year they have open houses, like the ones in TO. I am going to drop in and see a few. You can do it too.
Freddie.
Hamilton is a reasonably good place. I am living in hamilton for about three months. Hamilton is geographically divided into Mountain and Downtown. Downtown is pretty old city and is reasonable to rent an apartment. Mountain is little expensive but still lot cheaper than renting in places like mississauga. Hamilton is mainly known for the McMaster University, hence favorite destination for students. Employment opportunitues are not much.
I am not sure where desi population is concentrated in hamilton but i know the neighboring town of Stoneycreek has lots of desi population. Not many desi grocers in hamilton but u can find in stoney creek.
If u have a job in Hamilton, burlington or oakville, than relocating to hamilton is not a bad idea. Its affordable to own( I mean BUY) a place to live for those interested.
Public transport is as good as TTC, may be some times better. The cost of monthly bus pass is $65.
