Hi desi
I am a taxi driver and last year I made a small income for 2 months but I did not collect GST as i am deemed to have collected. But I still have to return GST. Now I have to file a gST # and also file for election to use the quick method of return or the regular input tax credit return. Can you pls. tell me which method to mention.
Tks

You are required to be registered (mandatory) for GST if and only if your revenues in 4 consecutive quarters is more than $30,000. However, if you feel it might be worthwhile to register before that (since you can get back your GST you pay on your purchases, including Gas), which I doubt ofcourse, you can voluntarily register for GST.
You are NOT assumed to collect GST just by being a taxi driver. There is a threshhold of a revenue figure as given above.

If you have to register for GST, in your case as a taxi driver, it might be worthwhile to select the quick method.
