Hi,
It looks like I will be relocating from Mississauga to Burnaby in a week or so. My offer is about to be confirmed, and so I will probably move next week.
Any Burnabians around? I know Smiley is one.
Will be looking for apartments in and around Burnaby. Any good areas/specific areas to avoid in/around Burnaby? We're two - my wife & self. Have also been checking out http://www.rentbc.ca." rel="nofollow">LINK
We just moved from New Jersey to Mississauga 2 weeks back, and now it's off to Burnaby! Will be looking to buy a car soon, but would have to rely on public transport for a few weeks.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!
Hi Jughead
You can search for Apts on http://homes.canada.com/vancouver/browsecategory.aspx?id=3134.
If you do not have a car, try to move near Skytrain stations of Lougheed or Metrotown . Skytrain is the local train here in Vancouver .
Welcome to Burnaby, When you guys come . Let me know . We will catch up

Thanks Smiley. Well, my start date has been confirmed. We will be coming to Vancouver next wednesday, and I will be reporting to work the following monday. The company is taking care of my hotel accommodation for the first few weeks.
I am now actively looking for accommodation. I was told that the client's office is close to Metro town, which makes it easily accessible to Skytrains.
BTW, are Metrotown and Lougheed the only train stations in Burnaby?
Goodbye Toronto/Mississauga! Burnaby, here we come!! Atleast the weather should be better there!
Nope
Brentwood Mall is another one too but most of the residential apartment buildings are near Loughheed or Metrotown.
The weather will be Snuny and warm to welcome you to Vancouver area

We will be staying at a hotel near Metrotown area for the first 2-3 weeks to start with. Any good Indian grocery stores accessible from there? If required, I may rent a car, but want to get used to the place first.
Also, is $850 a reasonable monthly rent for a 1-br apt near metrotown on lougheed stations?
Thanks again!

-- Surrey is a good place for grocery stores but you will find a couple around

-- Come to the hotel first and then see if you require a car. You may or may not with Skytrain being there .

-- 800 would be fine but if the complex is really good , with secured entrance and lots of services tennis, sauna etc. , Then it would be a reasonable deal
Once again when are you coming . See my PM for my contact details and call me when you are here or if you need any iNfo before

Last couple of times, when I was in Vancouver, I stayed at Holiday Inn @ Metrotown usually a week or two at a time. It is right across Skytrain station with covered walkway connection. I didn't check the Indian Grocery Store but there are couple of Indian restaurant closeby. There is also a big Oriental Mall within walking distance. I didn't need a rental car to get around. Metrotown is well connected, usually walked when it wasn't raining.
I noticed quite a few hi-rise apts with rental sign, when I was walking along skytrain. One or two skytrain stops North (or South not sure?) of Metrotown.
