Hi Everyone
I have been an avid reader of these forums for the past 12 months or more and they have been extremely helpful and encouraging. The users and moderators have been absolutely amazing in giving their responses and It has helped me alot and I am sure it has helped others also. I live in BRampton/Missassauga area.
Well Here is my timeline and experience:
Application Receeipt: May 07, 2004.
Acknowledging receipt: May 07, 2004.
(notice one year gap here, this is when I called my MPs office)
Sstarted processing application: March 14, 2005.
File was transferred to local office :April 21, 2005
Notice to appear for test: April 22, 2005
Oath of Citizenship: May 26, 2005
Alot of people had questions about whether or not they check passports for all stamps. In my case, and the others in the line, they did but just as a formality.
Also I had a little problem with my application. I had no idea until I contacted my MPs office who were kind enough to research it for me and get back to me. It was CIC's fault because they had done something wrong when entering my information. BUt that was taken care of in 48 hours once I had my MP involved. My suggestion is that if you see no progress at all in your application, than I would contact your respective MPs and have them take a look at it. With mine, I did not see any movements for 10 months and so I knew something must be wrong. Ofcourse the call agents at CIC try to be helpful but there standard answer was "IT IS IN PROCESS"...
So all in all, it took 12 months and about 20 days for my application to go from receipt till OATH...
I AM A CANADIAN!!!!!!!!!!!! And it is VERY exciting...
Now time to get my passport...

I don't think that gap is not too long. It's not unusual that all the applications will take atleast 10 months to commence the processing from the ack receipt date. That's what happened in your case too. Your MPs involvment didn't influence, i guess. Because, i got ackn date on April 30, 2004 and with out anybodys involvement my file was started for processing on March 02, 2005.
My MPs office actually did help me. They got me in touch directly with an officer at the CIC with whom I had direct phone conversations.
The issue wit mine was that I was in the independent category of skilled professionals when I landed. They had entered me into the business category of "entrepenuer" when I applied for Citizenship. Meaning that i would have been required to start a new business in two years. And they needed proof of me having started a business. So I had to fax my IMM 1000 to a different department and they than cleared my hold and switched me back to the correct category.
Without my MPs office, I would never have known that. Also from the time I contacted my MPs office to the time I took the oat was about 2 months. So I am pretty confident that CIC did put my app on the fast track. But I guess I would never know 100 percent.
