Settlement funds GBP or CAD?

hi i m bhavin patel from London. i am a new immigrant comming on sep 05. i understand that i have to bring canadian $10000 as i am a single and have to show on the time of landing...can i bring this amount in British Pound or i must have to convert it in canadian dollar before i enter in canada?

hi bhavin,

You need to show them that you have the cash. You can bring it in American express travellers cheques if you want too bring it.

You need to show that you have that much which you can use when you are in canada.

thanks for your reply but my questions is still there. i am confused about currency that i should bring with me. can i bring British Pound as a proof of fund as i dont wish to convert whole of them in canadian dollar ? kindly plase reply me.

Any convertible currency is good enough.

Also remember that any money / Cheque / Travellers cheque / Securities for CAD 10,000 or more (or equivalent) has to be declared to customs officer at airport by filling a simple one page form

(you can even take a filled-up print-out of form before you start).
