Can we please post some success stories?
I think we are discouraging aspiring/new immigrants. Not everyone has a bad experience and given some time, people can achieive success. If you are determined, enterprising and patient, things can work in your favour. Failure is not the inevitable outcome for all immigrants.
Please post some success stories so that we can motivate others and help others in our community.
I came to Canada 11 years ago from India to pursue my Masters in Business. When I graduated, the economy was in a recession so I had to take up a sales position but then I did move on - to consulting, sales/training and then to research. While pursuing my career goals, I never gave up and constantly upgraded my skills - even with a Masters from here I completed my CSC (Canadian Securities Course), Derivatives Course and courses in Market Research.
I am now working for a large utility company as a Senior Market Researcher and hope to join management in a couple of years.
It would be nice if we could share our experience and learn from each other.
hi
i always had the feeling that with the same skills knowledge and energy you gonna achieve much more in canada then in india
Let me ask all those so called failures that had you been in India how better off you would have been?
the ,average wage is $ 7 an hour that we recieve and if we work say 70 hours of the 156 we make 490 a week i.e 1960 a month and even if we save $ 500 a month we save $ 6000 a year and we say we are still struggling .atleast for me this struggle is worth it.
I request all the desis not to be short sighted and think of the results at the end of 10 years or 15 years and then see yourself where you would have been in india and what you are here in canada.

Sucess is not an accident it is a result of hardwork with intelligence.
Have you guys read carefully what others have posted ?
Where did so many of wrote that we are failures?
Everyone struggles initially and struggle is intense, thats all we are mentioning.
Haven't most of us written that we all found jobs in our profession within 2-3 years and are sharing how we made it?
what failures are you guys talking about?
70 hours a week ....wow! The average Mon - Fri workweek is barely 40 hours, 44 in most factory jobs. Even if one makes $300 a week how areyou supposed to survive if you have a kid and spouse does not work...the rent alone is $900.00 a month. Add groceries, transportation cost and day to day living expenses and you have already gone beyond!
That is what we are trying to warn so that newcomers understand the reality BEFORE they make the movie. Come prepared is what we say, not that we have failed
I dont think any well placed professional from India will love to work 7 days a week in a factory.......no way. That works for desperate people who smuggle themselves in tankers and ships but not for a successful professional from south asia or from anywhere else for that matter
