Ok fellas... now that we do have an independant "success stories" forum, it would be interesting to see how many stories we do get in there and when. Until now we have only 5. Hope we get some more quickly. Else, and it would be most ironical if it happened, this forum might very well itself become a cause of undoing what it has been set up to do!
Some of the posts are cut and pastes from older posts, done by BL. May I request the original authors/mods to incorporate a couple of small but important pieces of information in those posts and this request is also for the future contributors to that thread.
1.Can we have the location from where the "successful immigrant", let's call him SI from now, moved to Canada. I think it goes without saying that people who have worked in the US, and consequently can boast of North American work experience, and have subsequently moved to Canada cannot be considered to be on the same boat as those coming directly from their home countries.
2. Could we also have contributing SIs also give a broad idea of their age, maybe by using ranges e.g 20-30, 30-40 etc, since this too is an important detail.
I think it is essential to put these little details in the "success stories" to avoid misinterpretations.

Add to that:
What Position you held in your prev Job before comign to Canada.
This is important since you could have been a manager in your prev job and have to start at an entry level Job here in Canada.
e.g I was a Senior Enginner in India in charge of Project X. I came to canada and got a job in my field after x months in a Junior position (Entry level, trainee, apprentice).

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
While your suggetions are relevant, comparing it to what one was and what one is now in Canada, might be success or failure in different people's view.
As an example, before I moved to Canada, I had worked at level of VP, President and even Director Finance and drew a TAKE HOME of over 100 k. However, I moved to Canada for different reasons than money and position and knew clearly that I will neither want nor get similar position. I would consider myself successful even if I am able to land a job or vocation which gives me a net family income of say 75k, where I can have a balance of work and family life (which I did not have earlier), send my children to the prestigious universities which I myself or my brothers could not afford when we were students, OR even get a low paying job in a well known MNC - a desire that I have had throughout my career.
At the same time I fully agree that narration of background would give a better picture to a reader, and if one's own's expectation from move to Canada is mentioned, it would bette define the story and reasons of success and be educative too.

At least success story should have education qualification and years of experiences of the person.

100% agreed.
I also think it would give us a clearer picture if the success stories are from those who directly landed from India/Pakistan or other home countries and not via Dubai/USA/Africa etc. because they obviously have an upper edge over the other person who comes from the home land directly.

Any particular reason why you have locked those threads of success in the "Success stories" forum? Perhaps it is because you do not wish to let those threads develop into more of those duels betwen the "positives" and the "negatives'. It is understandable, but at the same time it prevents people from questioning the SI or seek more relevant details and information about the story. Is it somehow possible to achieve both purposes? One way would be to keep a sharp eye on the posts in the forum and move/delete any improper post, but I am not sure how feasible that would be.

Diogenes,
Please read the original post by Garvo on "Starting of Success stories section." The first post explains all.
And I agree, the more info. we have the better. However this will be at the discretion of the original poster. We can certainly ask them follow-up questions if they've missed something we want to know and they can reply if they wish.
And I'm not too concerned that the section hasn't been flooded with Success stories since we introduced it last week. It is of least significance how many and how frequently we get stories, they are simply meant to inspire people. I trust they will flow in gradually and on their own.
Btw, I would urge YOU to post your own success story here too. Please let us know about your job-hunt experiences.
