I want to fly YYZ - BOM , Dec 08th - Dec 31st.
Travelocity as of today shows Alitalia CAD$1460.00 which is picture perfect.
When is the best time to book this ticket?
If I call an agent in Aug would he be able to offer me discounted prices on the same dates or is it better for me to book the tickets now through Travelocity or through an agent?
What would be the worst Alitalia prices during that time if I book through an agent in Aug ?

Website-booking is usually good for domestic purpose.
For India, I prefer calling an agent. You get a chance to negotiate, atleast you can try. You can ask the agent to check for other flights, or dates and then decide what's good for you.
Since you know travellocity offers 1460, call an agent and see if he get you for something less.
Isn't it a bit too early to book for Dec. If you're flexible in your dates a couple of days here n there, and willing to take the risk, you could get a cheap ticket if you book last minute. Unsold tickets unually go for around 300 bucks less that the quoted price, but it's a last minute deal.

While on the topic, does anybody know how much it costs to reschedule a departure?
I have a ticket for end april and enquired with the agent AND the airline to prepone for a week or so...both said it will cost around $300 each ticket (i have 4 tickets) and new ticket subject to availability of space. I found it hard to believe, would like fellow CDs opinions / experiences if any.

It will depend on the airline and so hard to predict. The rule of thumb is : the cheaper the deal , the more costly for rescheduling.
To me $300 sounds right. For Air France, they wanted $200 to reschedule (in the agents terms and conditions form).

Unfortunately rescheduling does not work in favour of customer.
When I booked my mother's return tickets, my agent did mentioned something like $60 for rescheduling more than 60 days in advance and $200 for within a week.
