Today I went to Goyal travels in vancouver to book a ticket for me to Trivandrum during the second week of october 2007. i preferred singapore airlines with a stopover in singapore so tht i can meet my classmate over there. the lady in the front desk said the cost of the ticket is $ 1950 with a free hotel accommodation. i said fine, as i don’t care spending few bucks more for a day's stay in singapore and meeting my friend is important to me. she then asked me to give some cash advance to book the ticket. otherwise she can’t do the same. i said no and walked away. I am wondering whether she was so aggressive to get the business or she wanted to waive away the customers as she is not happy with the desi management over there?
P.S. i have contacted some other agents before over telephone but none of them are having singapore airline tickets for that particular period.
Expedia should give you some good flight options. http://www.expedia.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK

Malbari,
I went to the Singapore airline website and found the fares change during the week, depending on the date of travel. I plugged in Vancouver to Bangalore India return and the fare for the 22nd October comes to $1407 and it changes to $1900 (YVR-BLR 22nd October -Return 20th Nov 07) the fare changes everytime I get out and come back to the same website and plug in the same dates, but different computers. Since you are travelling during the off peak season the fares will be lot less (and the taxes are not included in their website and it might amount to $300 or more. Not known) Buy a Toronto Star or your local news paper, especially the Saturday edition and look for the Travel section and go through the ADs. Alternately you can read the same for free at the libraries.
Korean Airline and may be others too are flying out of Vancouver to Mumbai and Chennai. Choose your destination and explore. Good Luck.
Some travel agents want a deposit because they might charge more for the same and you can get it for less on the website. When you choose to go the web route you loose your deposit, they then don't care if you travel or not. They made their money. Now you have to come back to them to avail their services. (They now have you by your b....) You were smart. Kudos to you.
Freddie.
