Gurudwara ( SIKH temple ) is also NOT a bad place to get FREE food ..so it doesn't have to be just Food banks. I have heard their " LANGAR " ( Free devotional food given ) is pretty good.
You don't have to be SIKH or even Punjabi to eat for FREE over there. You can be from the South & you can still get FREE food over there.
No Canadian experience or education is required to eat over there . So if you can't afford Indian sweets from Brar etc ..they are quite expensive BTW ..feel FREE to take your family & eat for FREE at these Gurudwaras.
TK , why are you concerned about ALL Europeans ? Don't worry about Western Europeans like British, French, Germas etc ..they have lot of money ..but YES do worry about Eastern Europeans like Polish, Romanians , Hungarians etc etc ..and even Russians , Ukrainians etc ..they are EXPLOITED big time.
Don't worry about the Hong Kong Chinese they are loaded ..just worry about the Mainland Chinese.

FREE Co-Op & Volunteer work is ONLY good if you actually learn some valuable skill & experience at the end of the day in your field of expertise & if they actually absorb you at the end of the day.
But 90 % of companies will just make you do dull boring menial clerical & secretial work for FREE. You will learn nothing & will just get used & they will kick you out if you complain or when your term is over.
Expect to be the Office & Manager's B*tch ..and expect to be bossed around by everyone. They should atleast pay you minimum wage for this kind of nonsense . Expect to fetch COFFEE for the boss from STARBUCK's , while you don't even have money to go to Tim Horton's for a coffee

Thanks but no thanks . I am quite capable of supporting me and my family with set standards without stealing , begging or borrowing . I am glad that I took some one's advise seriously as it actually worked .

I had ( have) my fair share of hardships but no regrets .

People on WELFARE & using food banks have NO regrets either. They are just returning the favour by using the system, that was using them.
Don't try to induce guilt in them, absolutely nothing wrong with what they are doing, they are neither stealing, begging or borrowing.
They are just as positive & successful in using the system that used them, just like you..its very conatagious ..I hope it spreads like Ebola
Don't you apply for CCBT & UCCB for your kids ? That's nothing but a handout from the gov. for your kids.
Aren't you going to apply for OAS when you retire ? That's nothing but welfare for senior citizens.
Feel free to set your set standards and NOT take CCBT, UCCB for your kids & OAS when you become a senior citizen

There is another very important cash job you can do in Canada, and we should tell all immigrants about it.
Its extensively advertised in FREE newspapers like Metro , 24 hrs etc.
Guess what it is ? Clinical Medical Drugs Trial
CRO & generic drug manufacturing Companies like Apotex, BioVail etc test their generic drugs on you and take blood samples from you in return.
Basically they give you a pill & you are a human guinea pig in there..they also give you FREE food & accommodation, while you are there. Then you get compensated for your TIME and BLOOD ..literally every 20 mins or so they take blood samples from you
The pay is decent lot of desis & students are doing that..so in addition to Welfare, Food banks , Gurudwara free Langar aka food , this is a good source of income.
All the side effects & complications from the new dugs they test on you are yours to keep..no one will take them back from you.
The best thing is NO Canadian experience or education is required for these drug trials, as the blood samples they take from everyone are the same colour ..RED !..Canadian or otherwise.
