Dear CD bhaiyon,

I was just trying to think what action the Canadian goverment cud take in this regard. The government cud at max assure u but the situation can only change if the private employers r willing to hire immigrants which I presume wud be difficult. And I am sure the government can't enforce its decision on the industry. I think in case of any job, first the employer has to be convinced about the capabilities of the potential employee and no one, including the government, can dictate that to him. Another reason cud be the extensive background checks done on the applicants (as u wud agree that most applicants from south asian origin have a tendency to overstate their experience and skills).

I hope this does not lead to another "quota system" as in India (which does not help anyone). I also feel that jobs wud never be granted on charity. My worst fear is that if at all there is even the slightest coersion from the government on the private employers, they might just decide not to hire immigrants at all just to stay away from any possible problems / controversies later on.

I don't want to sound discouraging but just wanted to present the other side of the coin.

regards,

First of all I would advise you to please post all discussions in the other thread- Appeal to Unite all Immigrants. This thread was opened for people to join in with their support for the memorandum. But since you posted your comments here, I will answer you here.

I request you to kindly read the statistics before presenting your ideas. Everyone here is aware of the figures released by the Federal Government.
While I fully appreciate your concerns let me assure you that if the present statistics about the fertility rate in Canada is any indicator, then the govt here cannot afford to reduce the immigration quota atleast in the next 15-20 years. They will not do it for their own survival. If atleast five immigrants do not work per senior citizen, how they are going to enjoy their retirement lives ? Their own statistics reveal everything.

As regards private sector, again as per their own statistics, the entire Canadian workforce shall comprise of only immigrants within the next 20-25 years. So the private sector will have to close down business if they do not hire immigrants and the economy will crash as a result.Wherefrom their employees would come?? Immigrants contribute a great deal to the growth of Canadian economy. Its always Canada which benefits much more than the immigrants.

Like one journalist from The National Post said here about immigration," It is recolonization for getting cheap labour."

It is they who should be scared and not us. So let us not unnecessarily worry about that aspect. Just investigate yourself and you will get the true picture.

Thanks

Dear Puru,

As far as "reading statistics before giving an opinion" is concerned - let me tell u that u don't need to know statistics for just posting an opinion on a previous post. And anyways, in most cases things don't work according to statistics as is proven amply in your note. As per the statistics quoted by u, the canadian government can't afford to reduce immigration for another 15-20 years. Then why was there such a hue and cry when they merely raised their points to 75 ? Why do people get jittery and send off notes on forums like this that they have heard rumours about points being increased etc. ? If the government really need immigrants so badly - then why this 5 year wait ? Why this "orphaned" attitude towards immigrants - all those who have already reached Canada should have been welcomed with open arms and integrated into the society. U can't presume what they can or can't do in the future.

As regards your statistics on the immigrant population is concerned, don't u think u r contradicting yourself? If u feel the canadian economy wud crash if they don't hire immigrants, then what is all this fuss about ? On the one hand u say that they wud have to hire 5 immigrants per retiring person, then where is the problem ? If not today, 5 years down the line u guys wud surely be ruling the roost !! Congratulations (for the future).

As far as commenting on a separate thread is concerned, what r u afraid of ? I think when u post something on a public forum, it is open to discussion and u can't say that u r looking only for supporting posters.

Anyways, still best of luck to u and your congregation with the memorandum and I am sure u will keep us posted on the positive developments.

Bye....

Hi Rajrani,

The great French writer & philosopher Voltaire once said,"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." This is what I call real tolerance in a free society.

So let us tolerate each other's views without trying to impose a certain way of thinking on one another. Every one surely has a golden path to follow in his or her life. You walked your's, let me walk mine with all those friends whose paths are similar to my path.

There is no need to argue baselessly without any facts and figures just because it is a publc forum. Men may be wrong but figures are never wrong. I asked you to post your views in the main and bigger thread ( relating to this topic only) started by me only and not just anywhere but you seem to misinterpret even simple facts and accuse me of getting afraid when I have given this link even to media people. So who's brave ? You, who is afraid of being discarded by employers ( if they close doors as you said) or those who all are fighting for the rights and privileges unitedly?

Anyway, thanks a lot from me and my congregation. All development will be posted here, positive or negative. I believe in doing my Karma only and the results will follow accordingly.

Bye

Dear Friend,

This word "congregation" was invented by one CD friend, Rajrani. Read her post above to verify that. I thanked her on behalf of all our like minded immigrants friends who she sarcastically referred to as "your congregation."

I will appreciate if you kindly refrain from making personal remarks in future and post some constructive materials here.

Thanks
Puru
