Hi guys

I am back after Diwali break. It seems I have missed all the anars and phatakas here.

But I must admit whatever DT has said about surviving in Canada makes sense. One has to stop whining and concentrate on adapting himself to Canada. Every immigrant lands in Canada with limited funds. The faster they adapt themselves and get their lives back on track, the better their chances of settling down faster.


Puru - The reason why BL is not giving in to your demand is b'cos u r contesting the basic premise of a public forum. For every view, there can be a counter view. If u want only like minded people to join u then u wud have to start a forum and give membership only to like minded individuals. Hence u wud never have to respond to counter views and plus everyone wud understand your viewpoint.

Oops ! I just remembered Puru - u have not given the objectives of your memorandum. At this stage, I wud extend this invitation to all the other supporters of the memorandum to please list the objectives.

First I thank you for posting your comments which are fair enough. I also commend your views that even though you disagree with me in many matters, still you recognize the fact that there is an underlying effort going on here to do something positive. No one is whining here. I share the same views. I am willing to take any question which is directed towards the Memorandum and the immigrants' settlement issue but not a single personal one. Again, there is a way of asking questions in a healthy debate. The questions must relate to and be focussed on the subject being discussed and not the person who's discussing it. In other words, a good debate could go on as long as people do not lose temper or get agitated leading to personal attacks. If there is a disagreement, let us agree to disagree peacefully and in a civilized manner. So I hope in future everyone here (including me) remembers this point very clearly and distinctly.

Now friends, you have asked about the Objectives of the Memorandum. According to me, this Memorandum is primarily meant to inform/make aware the Federal Govt of the following facts :

1.Educated immigrants here have also become aware of the existing problems in the immigration/settlement programs through years of personal experiences and hardships faced by them. The immigrants understand that the Federal Govt genuinely wants to help them in the settlement process but due to various reasons whatsoever the job remains highly unfulfilled. So something positive needs to be done in this area on a priority basis.

2.The problems faced by immigrants here are known best by the immigrants themselves. They wish to to be consulted by the Fed Govt and policies(concerning them) must be made after due discussions with them. The decisions cannot be unilateral here.
Since this whole issue concerns our lives and careers and the future of this country's development and growth , we intend to be included as an important participant in the policy making process of the Federal Govt regarding this matter. The immigrants want to join hands and cooperate with the Federal Govt and its agencies to discuss, debate and work out practical solutions which could be mutually beneficial. The immigrants want to contribute to the building up of the economy and hence are concerned that Canada has not been able to utilize their true potentials. This loss is both ways and is detrimental in the long run for both Canada and the skilled immigrants.

3. In this regard, the immigrants want an audience with all concerned authorities of the Federal Govt.to kickstart the process of ongoing dialogue and discussions. Let the Federal Govt take us as allies in this matter and not their opponents or critics. We therefore extend our full cooperation and expect that they reciprocate our offer.

In short, the Memorandum is intended to draw the Federal Govts's attention towards the fact that we, the immigrants sincerely want to join the mainstream of this country and do not like to be left out. If there is overall progress we too want to enjoy the fruits of that progress. When we are in Canada we want really to be in Canada and not watch everything like mere spectators/outsiders from the stands.

Since this post has become long I wish to stop here ( more info will be posted in subsequent posts) and appeal to everyone to cooperate and make this effort successful.

See friends, if the effort fails then nobody will lose anything. For those who supported could atleast become satisfied that they tried to do something positive. We as humans have control over our actions and not the end results. But if we could achieve even an iota of something positive then everyone of us would benefit directly or indirectly and not only the supporters of this cause. I believe you will agree with me.

So I wish that a more meaningful discussion could resume now in this matter with everyone.
