Dear CD's of the 'dish flavor' ,
Many of us entertainment starved CD's have installed the dish/satellites at our residences/apts. Alas, little did we know that the entertainment was not long lasting thanks to the ever changing codes, digital cards, unhelpful dish installers etc.
Now we all are stuck with these pointy flying saucer shaped gadgets on our roofs as useful as Paul martin's brain
Our choices are either to have nothing show up on the TV screen or to 'bribe' the 'fly-by-night' dish operators couple hundred dollars every now and then.
All it takes to get these things running is pointing the dishes to the right direction and changing the signals as required. The only problem is gathering the know-how to do this.
Can't we all put our heads together and build a knowledge base of these simple procedures so that we all can enjoy uninterrupted entertainment without being at the mercy of the dish operartors.
I would love to hear all your invaluable suggestions and views in this regard.
peace & love,
seenappa
If you previosuly had Dish Network, and still have your dish up pointing towards their satellite, there is a solution out there. The new cardless receivers out there seem to be working. They cost in the range of around $200 to $300 depending on the model.
I know of atleast 3 sources from where you can get them. OTOH I've heard from people that this solution will only last until around Dec. 2005. So I'm trying to poke around and see if others have heard similar things.
As regards your point about creating a knowledge base, there are some websites out there which have everything you need to know about satellite TV. One of them is http://www.kickinchicken.org." rel="nofollow">LINK

Many Thanks sudesingh,
you seem to be a pro in regards to dish know-how.
Here's what i know about dish so far:
I have a Fortec star life time ultra. This is a cardless(digital) receiver. My agent set it up to point to the american channels(since the canadian channels would invite violation.) I think this is called Nagra1.
In the past couple of weeks, started losing all the channels and right now all channels are completely off the screen. I heard its shifted to a new secure system called Nagra 2.
in your post, you mention that i need to spend 200$ to 300$ more on the model. so, what happens to my current Fortec receiver? will it go the dinosaur way ...
Do i need to change the direction and if so where can i find the writeup to guide me?
This is a good start, i think more CD's should gather and teach each other the basics of fixing/changing the dishes in the same lines as we tune up our cars.
Peace,
seenappa

well, my dishwalla installed the dish with the promise of providing free customer service anytime anything happens...that was before i paid him the amount
well, now he wants a cool 100$ anytime he 'touches' the dish...you would think i am asking a brain surgeon for advice!! This would happen everytime the dish channels change and i have decided to not profit these guys..
The latest take is:
All the desi channels seem to have come back i.e TEJA, gemeni, Zee TV, etc etc...
can anyone confirm this?
